The Best Sweets Coming To Aldi In May 2021
One of the greatest joys of shopping at Aldi lies in the ever-changing variety of products they offer. Every week brings new finds, some of these seasonally appropriate, while others stick to a particular theme like German Week. It's hard not to get over-excited as you browse all the new goodies, hence the finds section nickname "Aisle of Shame."
Of course, with every great joy also comes great sadness, and we're not just talking about the buyer's remorse (or rather, dieter's remorse) you may feel after overdoing it on your latest haul. Rather, we're referring to the anguish you experience once you've fallen in love with your new favorite food, only to find it vanishing from the shelves when its limited time is up, leaving you without the consolation of knowing when (or if!) you'll ever be reunited with your true love.
If you're ready to take a chance with losing your heart again, though, there's a brand new batch of sweet, sweet sorrow for you to enjoy while you can. As Shakespeare would have said had he survived long enough to join the legions of Aldi fans worldwide, "Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and Aldi Finds' lease hath all too short a date."
Bake Shop 7 Layer Bars
First up out of the (cookie) batter's box, available starting on May 5, are Aldi's Bake Shop 7 Layer Bars. Although Aldi's website description doesn't explain what these are, 7-Layer Bars is another name for the cookie known as Magic Bars, and these typically include a crumb crust layer topped by sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, chopped nuts, and butterscotch chips. Sounds like a can't-miss combo! These cookie bars cost $3.99 for a 14-ounce box with eight bars, so at just 50 cents a cookie, it won't break the bank to do a little taste test.
Simply Nature Sweet Crisps
If you're in the mood for a very light sweet snack, you might want to pick up a bag of Aldi's Simply Nature Sweet Crisps. These appear to be a cross between a cookie and a potato chip, only without the potato part. They come in three different flavors: vanilla, lemon, and (if you really want to get wild) mango habanero. This item is priced at $2.99 for a 4-ounce bag, so may be a bit more expensive than your average chip (or cookie), but it's always fun to try something a little new and different like these.
liveGfree Gluten Free Cheesecake Sampler
What Aldi's liveGfree line lacks in initial punctuation (sorry, Aldi, but we grammar nerds find this kind of thing really, really irritating), it makes up for in deliciousness. The Gluten Free Cheesecake Sampler, in particular, drew rave reviews from readers of the Gluten-Free Baking blog, many of whom lament the fact that it's not available year-round.
To those readers, as well as anyone else on a gluten-free diet, your time has finally come! Or rather, it will come on May 5, at which time you'll want to rush to Aldi to stock up on these generous 2-pound cheesecakes priced at $8.99 apiece. In fact, even if you're not living la vida gluten-free, you may still enjoy the crushed pecan crust, and did we mention the flavors? You get two slices each of chocolate chip, triple chocolate, raspberry swirl, and classic New York style, what's not to love about that?
My/Mochi Ice Cream
While most of Aldi's products are store-branded, they do carry a small number of special items sourced elsewhere. Among these items is one of the finds coming later in May (the 12th, according to information Mashed received from Aldi): mochi ice cream balls made by My/Mochi Ice Cream. If you're a fan of mochi-wrapped ice cream (or ice cream-filled mochi), you know you're going to want to pick up a few boxes, which come with six pieces each priced at $4.88 and are available in flavors like s'mores, cookies and cream, and banana chocolate. If you haven't ever had ice cream wrapped in sticky rice dough, now's your chance to try this trendy fusion favorite.
Diana's Bananas Banana Babies
Yet another non-Aldi-branded dessert item coming soon (well, May 26, so soon-ish) to an Aldi near you is Diana's Bananas Banana Babies, one of the few "healthy indulgences" that actually lives up to both halves of the name. The healthy part is a real banana, or actually half a one (that's what makes it baby-sized), that's been frozen, dipped in chocolate, and then had a stick stuck into its bottom end so you can eat it without getting messy. Plus, you can also pretend you're at a state fair, home of all things on sticks. When these Banana Babies go on sale at Aldi, they will cost $3.89 for a box of five and be available in both milk and dark chocolate varieties.
