The Reason Guy Fieri Hates Eggs
Guy Fieri is by all accounts a pretty adventurous eater. He'll chow down on pretty much anything out in front of him on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and the menus at his restaurants including Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen and Bar boast some not-so-standard items such as Sashimi Won-Tacos (as the name implies, a wonton/taco mashup), Fireball Whisky Wings (complete with cinnamon-whisky infused buffalo sauce and a blue cheese/wasabi dip) and Guy's Cheesecake Challenge (topped with pretzels, potato chips, and hot fudge). Apparently, he's never met a flavor combo he's afraid to experiment with.
So what, then, is up with his intolerance of the ever-innocuous egg? It's not like he's allergic, or objects to them on religious or ethical grounds, since a number of his recipes contain eggs or egg-derived products such as mayonnaise. It's just that he can no longer tolerate the taste of eggs on their own. So what, eggs-axtly, happened to turn Guy into such an ovophobe?
Guy's off-putting eggs-perience
Guy admits to liking eggs as a kid — in fact, he told Extra Crispy that one of his favorite things to eat, on those occasions when he could sneak away from his granola-pushing parents, was a fried egg sandwich with processed cheese on white bread. He did get kind of grossed out when, at the age of 10, he opened an egg to find a whole baby chicken still inside — and no, he does not admit to having eaten it like balut. Oddly enough, that wasn't the experience that made him anti-egg. He says this happened later on an occasion where he ate a badly-cooked hard-boiled egg with a chalky, yucky yolk.
What Guy prefers to eat for breakfast
If you, like Guy, think eggs aren't all they're cracked up to be, perhaps you share his breakfast preference for a big old plate of ham and grits, or else (on his healthier days) a glass of fresh-squeezed fruit and vegetable juice. If you, on the other hand, are a fan of the incredible edible egg, you might enjoy some egg-centric cooking tips. And should you wish to ensure that you never suffer Guy's ghastly experience that turned him off this food forever, you can learn how to make the perfect (and never chalky!) hard-boiled egg.
