Reddit Swears Aldi's Sugar Cookie Hummus Is The Perfect Vanilla Wafer Dip
Dessert hummus is still a fairly new concept in the food world. It seems to date back to the mid-20-teens and may have gotten a big boost in popularity when the Delighted By dessert hummus brand was featured on Shark Tank in 2017. In more recent years, chocolate hummus has found its way onto store shelves at Costco and Trader Joe's, but one place that's really gone in for dessert hummus in a big way is Aldi. While Aldi's dessert hummus isn't a hit with all of its shoppers, the grocery chain keeps on rolling out flavor after flavor including such non-standard offerings as strawberry daiquiri and peach cobbler. For winter 2022, it's brought back the sugar cookie hummus that was added to the holiday lineup in 2020.
Hummus is generally served as a dip, so you need something to serve with it. With your basic hummus, the dippers tend to be pita triangles or crudites. These don't sound too appealing with the sugar cookie flavor, though. So what do you dunk in the stuff? The label suggests pretzels and graham crackers, while cinnamon-sugar pita chips might also work pretty well. One Redditor, however, prefers a dipper that doubles down on the sweet cookie flavors.
Vanilla wafers pair well with sugar cookie hummus
A recent Reddit thread about Aldi's sugar cookie-flavored hummus suggests that it makes the perfect partner for vanilla wafers. As the original poster cautions, "Be careful with this combo. Can easily take down the whole container and box in one sitting." One of the commenters was grateful for the advice, chiming in "Every time I see it, I wonder how you would eat the sugar cookie hummus ... wafers make sense!" Several others, however, suggest peanut butter or cookie butter as alternative dips for that box of vanilla wafers.
Some commenters still aren't down with the idea of sweetened chickpeas, though. As one person puts it, "any dessert hum[m]us ... that's a confusing idea to me." Another agreed, saying "I cannot f*** with it, it might be delicious, I will never know." Yet another person opined: "Americans are ruining the word hummus," prompting someone else to point out that Aldi is not an American company. That particular comment thread soon devolved into name-calling and pre-holiday crankiness, at which point the entire thread petered out. Well, Reddit will be Reddit, no matter the reason or the season. Still, if you are a fan of dessert hummus, Aldi's sugar cookie flavor with vanilla cookies sounds like it could be a winning combo.
