- Shelby began her journey into the food world through a career in public relations in Las Vegas, one of the best cities in the World.
- She jokes — and laments — that she lived in the city at the wrong time, as her then 26-year-old palate wasn't able to truly appreciate the vast culinary offerings that the city had to offer.
- During her PR career, Shelby had the honor of being tasked to publicize restaurants from chefs Wolfgang Puck, Michael Mina, Todd English, and Brian Malarkey. She has also worked directly with multiple James Beard-nominated chefs in her hometown of Phoenix.
Experience
Shelby is a former food and restaurant public relations executive (her palate did finally mature, by the way), who managed the media relations for more than a dozen restaurants and worked in an ongoing capacity for nearly 20 more. Passionate about telling the stories of the chefs and restaurants she worked with, Shelby loved helping people fall in love with food the way that she had for nearly two decades. These days, she's a magazine editor and freelance writer who has interviewed notable figures in business, sports, and environmentalism. However, she may be most excited to have covered the 2024 James Beard Awards for Food World News, where she was able to witness a chef from Phoenix take home Best Chef: Southwest. In her spare time, Shelby loves exploring restaurants at home and abroad, in addition to conquering new and challenging recipes in her kitchen.
Education
Shelby holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Arizona State University.
