  • Because she is an avid home brewer, DB's friends and family have enjoyed the products of her experimental brews. From mead and lagers to stouts and everything in between, she firmly believes there's nothing quite like the anticipation of a new batch.
  • She absolutely fell in love with authentic Mexican cuisine while spending a year living along the Arizona-Mexico border.
  • DB credits her mother with her green thumb, which has led her to explore that art of growing fun and funky things like cucamelons, fig and peach trees, honeyberries, and an almost unreasonable number of orchids.

Experience

As a lifelong lover of writing, DB decided to turn her passion into a career in journalism. She has been fortunate enough to travel extensively, and sample regional cuisines from New York and New Orleans to Las Vegas and California's coast. She got an inside look at the foodie landscape of her hometown, Buffalo, New York, while working as a reporter for the Metro Source. After a move to the southwest, working as a graphic designer for Casa Grande Valley Newspapers in Arizona, she came to Mashed in 2016 to share her love and expertise for all things delicious. DB has contributed to many Static Media food brands since, including Daily Meal, The Takeout, Foodie, Chowhound, and Tasting Table. Inspired by a love of food history, gardening, and vintage 20th century recipes, she is currently working on a cookbook with a focus on tending to home gardens and recreating World War II-era recipes.

Education

DB has a bachelor's degree in English from West Virginia University with a focus in medieval literature and journalism.
