The Sam's Club Crab Legs That Are Captivating TikTok
There are plenty of lists out there for what and what not to buy from bulk stores like Sam's Club and Costco. According to Insider, Costco's bulk meat and seafood got the professional chef's seal of approval, and if people have leftovers, they can just freeze them. Sam's Club also has a decent variety of seafood, with many of the options being in the freezer section. When buying seafood, there is often a debate between fresh versus frozen, but what a lot of people don't know is that even if a fish is presented as "fresh" at the grocery store, it may have been previously frozen (via The Washington Post).
Between 70% and 85% of seafood in the U.S. is imported from around the world, so it would be impossible for all of it to arrive fresh (per Fish Watch). According to City Fish Market, it's especially common for crab legs to be cooked immediately out on the boat, then flash frozen to maximize flavor. When a mother-daughter duo was taste-testing frozen snow crab from Sam's Club on TikTok, they were concerned about how "fresh" it would taste, but after tasting it, they were pleasantly surprised by the flavor.

Social media accounts that taste test items from bulk stores like Costco and Sam's Club can be super helpful to decide what items are worth trying and which ones should stay on the shelf. @floridamomof3 on TikTok is run by a mother-daughter duo that taste tests and reviews items from Costco, Sam's Club, and other stores. In one of their recent videos, the duo tried wild-caught snow crab legs and claws from the 2-pound frozen pack at Sam's Club. According to Sam's Club's website, the bag retails for $24.98 (depending on the location). Snow crab can cost between $25 and $35 per pound (via quality seafood delivery), which is quite a bit more.
The mother-daughter TikTok team said that Sam's Club's frozen snow crab legs and claws were "really good" and tasted fresher than they were expecting. "I bought these too, and [definitely] worth the price," commented @kaseylg147. "One of my must haves every time i go to sams club," said user @jamiediplan. Other commenters were nice enough to give recipe recommendations since the pair simply dipped the crab in butter. "Boil them in some water with the juice of two lemons and drop the lemons in the water and add 2 bay leaves," commented @alikarlen. "Rinse them first before steaming and add can of beer to the water for steaming. Takes away the smell," said another TikToker.
