J. Kenji López-Alt's Daughter's Bento Box Has Instagram Jealous
Two things are likely to happen if you have a parent who's a famous chef — you rebel and subsist on a diet of fast food, or your tastes develop in the same direction as your famous parent's. In the case of J. Kenji López-Alt's daughter Alicia, we're guessing the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
López-Alt often shares Instagram photos of his daughter's packed lunches, all of which appear to reflect his multicultural background. His mother is Japanese, and his father is an American of German descent, per Kenji López-Alt's official website. In a July 27 Instagram post, the chef shows off a decidedly Japanese-themed meal laid out in a blue lunchbox, with the caption: "Tomorrow camp bento for Alicia: korokke with bulldog sauce, rice with benishoga and kombu tsukudani, corn and tomato salad, blueberries, and Koala's March strawberry cookies."
And it doesn't end there.
The bento boxes are a work of art
One July Instagram post shows J. Kenji López-Alt serving his daughter "cold soba with soy dashi. Leftover steak ..., tomato, and cucumber salad with ponzu dressing. Snap peas. Mango." And before that, there was an image of: "... sanshoku don, one of my favorite meals as a kid. Ground meat seasoned with soy sauce and mirin, scrambled egg, and green peas on top of rice," as well as "deep-fried gyoza" and "Japanese pickles."
And in a meal that will likely blow the mind of his daughter's classmates, López-Alt shares this: "Bbq eel, rice, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers with miso dip (miso dip recipe from my book), strawberries, and some Japanese milk crackers."
"What would make us all feel a lot better is if you could snap some pics of how all this comes back," one social media user said. Another commented: "Wait! How is this child that will consume this Bento box? I just got my son to love Philly roll with Masago and he is 7 and admired by all fellow parents!!! If this child isn't 15 years old I am defeated!"
