How Trisha Yearwood And Garth Brooks Actually Met
Trisha Yearwood may be a country music superstar and Food Network TV personality, but she's still a "queen" to hubby Garth Brooks. According to Today, he still bows to her every time they hit the stage. It shouldn't be surprising that the powerhouse couple isn't shy about showing their love for one another.
Whether they're sharing adorable anniversary tributes on Instagram, or touring together, this couple knows how to keep the romance alive. Per US Weekly, Yearwood says, "We are apart maybe five days a year." The couple makes it a priority to spend time together to help their marriage thrive.
Brooks and Yearwood celebrated their wedding anniversary in December, though they have been friends for over 30 years. In a chance meeting, the future lovebirds were first introduced in Nashville (via Taste of Country). Nashville, Tennessee, is synonymous with country music, so the two aspiring artists met while recording a demo is no surprise.
Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks met in a recording studio
Years before Trisha Yearwood was "In Love With a Boy," she was an aspiring country artist, recording demos around town. As fate would have it, she was invited to record a demo for songwriter Kent Blazy in his attic studio. Garth was also invited, and the two recorded together. As Trisha recalls, per CMT, "We hit it off! "But I had no idea he'd turn out to be Garth Brooks!"
After the recording session, Brooks told Yearwood she could open for him when he signed his record deal. Even though he didn't get paid for his demo, and Trisha received a measly $10, Brooks made good on his promise.
The two built a platonic friendship while touring over the years. According to US Weekly, Yearwood opened for Brook's tour after singing on his album, No Fences. When thinking back to the first meeting, Brooks recalls saying, " I felt like I just met my wife,' which is weird, right?" Even though the timing wasn't quite right at their initial encounter, it was only the beginning of their love story.
Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks tie the knot....18 years later
Both Yearwood and Brooks were married when they first met in 1987 (per Biography). Their friendship blossomed over time, but they did not start dating until 2002 when they were both single. Brooks proposed in California in 2005, where he was to celebrate the unveiling of his bronze statue. In a romantic gesture, he coordinated to have the wedding ring placed on the statue's finger. Brooks got down on one knee and proposed to Yearwood in front of a measly crowd of 7,000 people, lovingly referring to this as, "One of the greatest days of my life" (via Country Rebel).
During an appearance on the Ellen Show, the couple was asked how they keep their romance alive. In true Brook's fashion, he replied with a musical reference. "I think you gotta treat it like a duet. You gotta harmonize. You gotta make your partner feel like they're a star" (via The Ellen DeGeneres Show)
With 16 years of marriage and counting, it's clear their love keeps shining bright.
