20 Best Caffeine-Free Starbucks Beverages
There are many reasons someone might wish to avoid caffeine. Maybe caffeine doesn't agree with you, or you've made a New Year's resolution to give it up. Or maybe it is after 4 pm and you are trying to avoid being up all night. Whatever the reason, avoiding caffeine in our hyper coffee shop society can be a daunting task. But rest assured, we are here to help.
Starbucks is the biggest coffee company in the world by a lot. They are found in basically every major city, sometimes with multiple locations within just a few blocks. They are nearly impossible to avoid, and honestly, why would you. Starbucks offers a wide range of beverages, including many caffeine-free options. But before you go reaching for a decaf coffee, which still contains over 12 grams of caffeine, check out our list below of the 21 best caffeine-free beverages Starbucks has to offer. You won't be sorry you did.
1. Caramel Apple Spice
The Caramel Apple Spice is perfect for a cool fall day. When many people think about fall beverages, and in particular Starbucks fall beverages, the pumpkin spice latte typically comes to mind. But pumpkin does not have the monopoly on fall flavor; apple is just as delicious and deserves recognition.
The Caramel Apple Spice is Starbucks' take on a spiced apple cider. The drink starts with steamed apple cider; their cinnamon dolce syrup is added in for sweetness and spice. The drink is topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of Starbucks caramel sauce. It is a real treat, and does not contain an ounce of caffeine. One of the things we like about it, aside from it being delicious, is that even though it is not coffee-based, the drink still requires some special preparation. Not everyone is likely to keep caramel sauce and cinnamon dolce syrup on hand at all times to make their own. It is a drink that feels very worth the trip to Starbucks. And as a bonus, unlike the Pumpkin Spice Latte, the Caramel Apple Spice is available all year round.
2. Lemonade
What is better than sipping on an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot day? Nothing, that's what! Simple, but effective, the Starbucks lemonade is perfectly sweet, with just a hint of lemon tartness to cut through the sugar. There is no bad time to drink it, and unlike the other mass-produced lemonades which contain ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors, Starbucks lemonade contains just water, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon oil.
On a hot day, a tall glass of lemonade can taste like the nectar of the gods, giving life and energy back into your body. Even though there is no caffeine in this drink, the tang from the lemon is sure to help put some pep in it. Possibly because of the vitamin C provided by the lemons. Starbucks lemonade can contain up to 50% of your daily vitamin C needs. Vitamin C helps the body produce energy helping to wake you up. Who needs an iced coffee, when you can grab a nice iced lemonade?
3. Blended Strawberry Lemonade
We have already discussed how good the Starbucks Lemonade is, but this drink really kicks it up a notch. The Blended Strawberry Lemonade uses the classic lemonade as its base. Strawberry is added which brings a whole new level of fresh summer flavor to the drink. Strawberry lemonade is already one of the great summer beverages. But the good people at Starbucks did not stop there. They blend the whole thing with ice and make it into a beautiful slushy style drink, that also takes on a beautiful pink hue.
While Starbucks Frappicinios usually take center stage when it comes to their frozen beverage selections, the Blended Strawberry Lemonade should not be overlooked. The drink is refreshing and cool on a hot day, as well as sweet and delicious. It contains neither caffeine nor dairy, making it an excellent beverage for those looking for a dairy-free alternative beverage.
4. Mint Majesty Tea
Starbucks serves up a wonderful variety of teas under its in-house tea brand Teavana. Unfortunately, like many teas, most of the brand's teas contain caffeine, even in small doses. Not only does black tea contain caffeine, but green and even white tea contains caffeine. To go truly caffeine-free, one has to go with an herbal tea. Luckily, Starbucks offers some great herbal tea options.
Mint Majesty is cool and soothing. The tea contains both mint and lemon verbena. Instead of getting a regular old boring mint tea the lemon verbena adds extra complexity to the flavor, it is subtle and not at all overwhelming, but is present enough to prevent Mint Majesty from tasting like someone dissolved a bunch of Altoids in hot water. A cup of Mint Majesty might not give you the same jolt that Earl Gray might, but you will feel refreshed and enjoy every sip.
5. Peach Tranquility
This is not just a great herbal tea, it is one of Starbucks' best teas overall. Peach Tranquility is a uniquely blended herbal tea. As the name implies it contains peaches, but that is not all. Candied pineapple is added to the blend, along with rose hips, and lemon viberna. The blend is rounded out with chamomile. The mix is soothing and relaxing. The flavor profile strikes a beautiful balance between fruity and floral. There are multiple flavors going on but the tea does not feel busy. Instead, the flavors work together in perfect harmony.
This tea contains no caffeine, and is not for someone who is looking to energize themselves. Instead, this is the perfect tea for someone looking to sit back and relax. It is delicious and calming, with the chamomile adding an extra shot of relaxation. If you want a drink that can be had both in the morning, or at night, this is the tea for you.
6. White Hot Chocolate
Most chocolate contains caffeine, which means even though Starbucks hot chocolate is delicious, it is sadly not a caffeine-free beverage. Thankfully though, Starbucks offers a white hot chocolate. White chocolate is derived from the cocoa butter found in chocolate. It does not contain the cocoa solids which is what gives chocolate its deep earthy flavor and brown color, and also its caffeine. Instead white chocolate is indulgently smooth. It adds a level of creaminess that is hard to find elsewhere.
Starbucks White Hot Chocolate is the epitome of silky smooth beverage. It has the lightly cocoa flavor of white chocolate, but without any of the bitterness. While some might find it on the sweet side, we find it to be an indulgent treat. The taste is reminiscent of sweetened condensed milk and is the perfect drink for someone looking for a cup full of comfort. While this beverage is available year-round, we find it to be particularly good around the holiday season. Whether you live in a place with snow or not, this will put you in a festive mood.
7. Cinnamon Dolce Crème
Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce syrup is pretty fantastic. It combines a sweet caramel flavor with a spicy cinnamon kick. We are grateful we can buy Cinnamon Dolce syrup on its own. But if you do not want to commit to 33 servings, that is okay. Starbucks offers some wonderful caffeine drinks that feature this fantastic syrup.
The Cinnamon Dolce Crème is basically the Cinnamon Dolce Latte, without the espresso. While that might sound odd, hear us out. Espresso is really just a few ounces of the overall drink, and without it, you still get the steamed milk and the sweet cinnamon syrup. It fills all the voids you could want from a sweetened latte without the afternoon jitters. Plus the whole thing is topped with Starbucks' amazing whipped cream and a sprinkle of their delicious cinnamon dolce topping. Not a bad deal in our opinion.
For those also looking for a dairy-free option, this beverage is perfect. The syrup itself is dairy-free and the beverage can be ordered without the whipped cream, and with any of the multiple non-dairy milks Starbucks has to offer.
8. Vanilla Crème
This drink tastes like childhood comfort. The Vanilla Crème is a simple beverage of steamed milk and Starbucks vanilla syrup, topped with Starbucks whipped cream. With no hint of caffeine anywhere in the drink, it is honestly more likely to put you to bed than to wake you up. The creamy smoothness and subtle flavors are easy to drink and lull the drinker with comfort and serenity. While you likely wouldn't want this drink if you need a boost of energy, if it is evening, or you just want a comforting beverage this is a perfect option.
The drink is sweet, but not cloying. It has the wonderful floral smell of vanilla that instantly transports the drinker to a relaxing frame of mind. It is sweet and indulgent, almost reminiscent of vanilla ice cream. The whipped cream on top only adds to this indulgent flavor pallet and will leave the drinker's sweet tooth satisfied.
9. Steamed Milk
Starbucks is known for its customizability. You can choose anything from sizes, to flavors, to milks, down to even the temperature of some beverages. At Starbucks, you can get exactly the drink you want, so it is no surprise that their caffeine-free beverages would be the same.
At Starbucks, if you want, you can get something as simple as Steamed Milk. This simple beverage is typically marketed on their kids menu, but is available for anybody to order.
If you want to jazz it up, Starbucks offers a plethora of syrups and sauces that can be added to the mix to give it a bump of flavor, without the bump of caffeine. While the mocha sauce does contain some caffeine, other flavors do not. Flavors such as hazelnut and caramel are available, as well as fruity flavors such as strawberry and raspberry. Sugar-free vanilla is also available for those looking to avoid added sugar. Starbucks will let you do any combination you want to achieve your perfect desired drink, all without adding any caffeine.
10. Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage
The name is long, but that is fitting because this drink has a lot going on. Starbucks Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage is from the brand's line of frappuccinos that do not contain any coffee, instead opting for a creamy-based frappuccino.
The drink starts with caramel sauce, which is blended into the creamy frappuccino base. From there the drink is topped with Starbucks dark caramel sauce. Whipped cream is added to the top, then more caramel sauce on top of that, and finally, it's topped off with Starbucks crunchy caramel sugar topping. If you do not like sweet drinks, this is not the drink for you. But if you do, this delectable caramel explosion should be right up your alley. It is creamy and sweet, and tastes almost like a caramel milkshake. This drink could function as either a dessert or as a mid-day sweet treat before you take on whatever comes next.
11. Strawberry Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage
If you are looking for something not quite as sweet as the Caramel Ribbon Crunch, the Strawberry Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage is for you. Do not get us wrong, this drink is still sweet, but instead of caramel, this drink features Starbucks strawberry puree which adds a lovely summer punch of flavor to the drink.
The drink starts with the creamy milk and ice base of a frappuccino. Strawberry puree is added in layers on both the top and bottom of the drink. This means that no matter where you are in the drink, you are getting a burst of strawberry flavor. We appreciate that instead of just using a strawberry flavored syrup, Starbucks uses strawberry puree. It adds a more natural strawberry flavor and really elevates the drink. When topped with the signature Starbucks whipped cream, the whole beverage takes on a berries and cream feel that is absolutely perfect.
12. Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage
This frappuccino is vanilla overload in the best possible way. You might think vanilla is simple, and it can be, but do not confuse that with boring as this frappuccino is anything but.
The Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage exudes rich and creamy decadence. This Starbucks drink starts with a delicious vanilla bean base and uses a vanilla bean powder in the blend which gives it not just an extra punch of vanilla flavor, but an added texture that resembles ice cream. When the whole thing is blended you end up with a drink that tastes like a vanilla milkshake and has those tell-tale flecks of black from the vanilla bean which speak to the class and richness of the drink. Starbucks then, of course, tops it with their amazing whipped cream. While they also recommend adding a shot of espresso on the top to make it affogato style, going sans-espresso keeps this delicious beverage 100% caffeine-free.
13. White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage
If you liked Starbucks White Hot Chocolate, you are going to love the White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage.
The White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino is similar to its hot counterpart. Both have that smooth and sweet texture reminiscent of sweetened condensed milk. But this time instead of coming hot, the white mocha sauce is blended with ice creating an ultra smooth frozen drink. The drink is less intensely vanilla than the Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino, though it does have a hint of vanilla. Instead, this drink focuses on the mellow flavor the white mocha sauce lends itself to. It is similar to a frozen hot chocolate, a drink offered at other establishments, but instead of caffeine-filled cocoa, it is the caffeine-free white chocolate instead. If you are looking for a good hot chocolate-like treat during warmer weather, this is likely the best drink around.
14. Iced Passion Tango Tea
Iced tea does not just come in black and green. At Starbucks, they offer a truly special iced tea in the form of the Iced Passion Tango Tea. The tea is an infusion of apple and lemongrass with hibiscus mixed in which gives it a beautiful hot pink color. It is this color that gives the tea the name "passion." And we have to say, we are pretty passionate about this tea.
As an herbal tea, there is no caffeine in it, but the fruit and herbs in it give a breath of life and energy to the drinker. The tea is prepared shaken with ice, making it extra cool and refreshing. The Starbucks house mix is naturally sugar-free, so you can have this drink without any added sugar, savoring the natural sweetness and tang of the herbs, or opt for a couple of pumps of Starbucks classic syrup to add a touch of sweetness. Either way, you will not regret trying this drink.
15. Iced Passion Tango Lemonade
What is better than one amazing Starbucks drink? How about two mixed together. That is right, the Iced Passion Tango Lemonade from Starbucks is a beautiful combination of the delicious lemonade and Starbucks' unique Iced Passion Tango Tea; both drinks are delicious and naturally caffeine-free.
This drink blends its two flavors together seamlessly. The lemon in the lemonade beautifully compliments the hibiscus, apple, and lemongrass in the Iced Tango Tea. The lemonade adds the touch of sweetness that you might otherwise get from the Iced Passion Tea through adding classic syrup. With the lemonade though, you also get the refreshing burst of flavor. The color of the tea continues to shine through giving this drink that bright passionate pink color that is both eye-catching, and delicious. If you are looking to step up either the lemonade or the iced tea from Starbucks, we cannot recommend this drink enough.
16. Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink
Our next choice for dairy-free beverages is from Starbucks' line of coconut milk-based beverages they call "drinks." Unlike things like the Pink Drink, and Purple Drink, which contains the green coffee refreshers from Starbucks and therefore quite a bit of caffeine, the Iced Guava Passionfruit Drink does not contain any coffee or caffeine in it.
The drink starts with guava juice that has a hint of passion fruit flavor in it. Coconut milk is added which gives it a creaminess and adds to the tropical feel of the drink. Finally, a pineapple ginger syrup is added. The whole thing is shaken together, and the resulting drink is sweet and fruity, but offers just a hint of spiciness from the ginger and pineapple to keep it interesting. If you can't make it to the beach, just grab one of these from your local Starbucks and one sip of this tropical drink will transport you to the shore.
17. Evolution Fresh Organic Vital Berry
If you are in a rush, you are not out of luck. Starbucks now offers a line of cold pressed juices from Evolution Fresh, a company that Starbucks acquired in 2011. Each of their juices boasts an array of fruits and benefits to help you feel good. And bonus, the juices come pre-bottled for a convenient grab and go drink.
The Evolution Fresh Organic Vital Berry is one of the best flavors offered at Starbucks. The drink contains strawberries, raspberries, mango, orange, cherry, and apple. The combination in their cold pressed juice, the company boats, gives the drinker a mood-boosting effect. The drink contains 60% of a person's daily vitamin C, so it may also give the drinker a burst of energy without resorting to caffeine. Even without these mood and energy boosting effects though, this drink is a delicious organic option for someone on the go.
18. Evolution Fresh Super Fruit Greens
For those looking for something on the healthier side, look no further than the Evolution Fresh Super Fruit Greens. In addition to fruits like apples and mangos, this drink also includes green vegetables such as cucumber, kale, spinach, and romaine lettuce. This green juice comes packed with a punch of vitamin C and vitamin A. While vitamin C helps wake you up, vitamin A boasts a host of beneficial properties including antioxidants.
The drink is made from 100% juice that has been cold-pressed, and does not contain added sugars or artificial sweeteners, or flavors. All the goodness comes from the juiced fruits and veggies, allowing you to feel good about this drink.
Evolution Fresh Super Fruit Greens isn't just good for you either. It tastes great. The drink boasts a 4.5 star rating on Amazon with people commenting on both the taste and flavor of the drink being fantastic. You won't be disappointed picking up a bottle of this at Starbucks.
19. Pistachio Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage
Pistachio is one of Starbucks' seasonal flavors, typically showing up around the new year, and it provides a versatile flavor for a multitude of coffee-based and caffeine-free beverages. The best of these though is the Pistachio Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage.
The Pistachio Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage blends Starbucks crème frappuccino base with their seasonal pistachio syrup creating a pleasant drink base. It is mild and nutty, everything you would want from a pistachio flavored drink. The frappuccino is topped with whipped cream and a salted brown butter cookie flavored topping which adds a lovely crunch and sweetness to the top. While the drink can be ordered with dairy-free milk, the pistachio syrup contains non-fat milk so this drink cannot be dairy-free. But without a hint of coffee in it, this is a delightful caffeine-free beverage to start off the new year with.
20. Apple Juice Hot or Cold
Sometimes you just have to go back to basics, and with that Starbucks offers an oldy but a goody: Apple Juice.
Look, we know you may be unimpressed at first glance, but hear us out. Starbucks apple juice is 100% juice. It is not from concentrate. It is a really good juice. And Starbucks will offer this to you either cold or steamed. The steamed version tastes similar to a hot apple cider, making it perfect for a cool autumn day. Without any additional flavors or syrups in it, the natural sweetness and flavor of the juice really shines and gives you a warm and comforting apple beverage without the pretense. And if the weather turns, a nice cool glass of their apple juice can help you make it through the day with energy and some natural sugars to keep you going. While it may not seem like much at first glance, Starbucks apple juice can be a versatile and delicious caffeine-free drink.
