Most importantly, try to cut yourself some slack. Some days will be harder than others. On the days where it's a struggle to get out of bed, stay in your PJs, blast your favorite album on repeat, and indulge in a tasty treat. From ice cream and pizza to chocolate and creamy macaroni and cheese, everyone has a comfort food they like to turn to for an instant happiness boost. But what is the most popular breakup food in the country? USA RX conducted a survey to get to the bottom of this very mystery, and the results may surprise you.
Burgers and ice cream are tied for America's favorite breakup foods
Whether you prefer something salty and crunchy or creamy and sweet, there is a breakup cure for every person's taste buds. While the most stereotypical breakup foods may be raw cookie dough, pints of ice cream, and pizzas piled high with toppings, the majority of Americans tend to opt for other tasty snacks during this rocky period (via Bustle).
According to a survey conducted by USA RX, burgers and candy tied for first place as America's number one breakup food. While burgers were the favorite in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Nevada, and Oregon, individuals in Wisconsin, Ohio, Kentucky, Montana, and Indiana tended to opt for candy after a breakup. The runner-up snacks in second place were cake, chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese, milkshakes, and pizza. Surprisingly, ice cream didn't make it in the top five, even though there's a scientific reason people eat ice cream after breakups.
USA RX also noted some regional trends that were discovered through the survey. Milkshakes are a popular choice in some of the warmer Southern states, while tacos were a favorite in Texas, the land where Tex-Mex reigns. In total, there was an impressive 23 different treats across the nation that people used to drown their sorrows. Thankfully, when it comes to comfort foods, you are free to pick your own poison!
