These Cream Puffs Are Being Pulled From Costco Shelves Due To Possible Metal Fragments
A popular dessert product sold at Costco locations on the west coast has been recalled due to the possibility that it contains "small metal fragments." According to a press release published on Costco's website, Poppies International, Inc. based out of Brattleboro, North Carolina is advising consumers not to consume Delizza Belgian Mini Chocolate Cream Puffs and Delizza Belgian Mini Cream Puffs sold in packages of 120 pieces with UPC 6 76670 00800 6, Lot Codes L32E5021 and L32F5021, and Best By Date of June 7, 2023.
While as of the statement's release no injuries had been reported involving the product, which was distributed to Costcos in Carson City and Sparks, Nevada as well as in locations in northern California, Poppies International Inc. urges customers who have purchased the cream puffs to return them to the store, where they will be issued a refund. This news is no doubt concerning but is probably also a bit deflating for fans of these cream puffs, which Business Insider placed on a list of the best Costco desserts that cost less than $16.
Varieties of Delizza's Cream Puffs are also being recalled from other grocers
According to a press release from Delizza Patisserie, a brand owned by Poppies International, Inc., other varieties and quantities of the cream puffs sold at other stores in addition to Costco are also being recalled. These include 30-count tubs of Delizza Belgian Mini Chocolate Cream Puffs sold at ShopRite and PriceRite locations in several states in the Northeast. Additionally, 30-count tubs of Delizza Belgian Mini Cream Puffs distributed to Safeways in northern California are also being recalled.
It likely won't come as a surprise that ingesting pieces of metal can be pretty dangerous. It may lead to esophageal bleeding, an infection in the chest cavity between the lungs, and damage to other organs, according to Verywell Health. If any customer who has purchased one of these products at one of these retailers has questions, they can contact Poppies International, Inc. via email at info@delizza.us or by phone at 252-428-7718 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
