The Guinness World Record Subway Once Held
No matter what the record is or who sets it, it's always impressive to find out where a Guinness World Record stands. From the loudest burp to the longest fingernails, there are world records for just about every topic you can think of. But what you might not have guessed is that Subway once held a Guinness World Record, per The Daily Meal.
So, which world record was the sandwich shop's claim to fame? The fast-food chain set a record for the most people making sandwiches at the same time.
On August 1st, 2015, Subway had 1,481 people making six-inch subs. Per the World Record Academy, Subway set the record at its annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, just a few months later, in February of 2016, Subway's Guinness World Record was broken by TangoTab and Friends when 2,586 people simultaneously made sandwiches in Dallas.
Really, it was a singular victory for Subway, as TangoTab and Friends had previously held the record in 2014, too. The organization donated all of the sandwiches and even more food to local food banks and charities, proving the record work for a good cause and not just for bragging rights.
There are other impressive sandwich records, too
While the Guinness World Record for the most people making sandwiches at the same time yielded a lot of sandwiches, the records for most sandwiches made and set in a line are held by different groups.
The longest line of sandwiches measured 12,679.72 feet long, a record that was achieved in Barcelona, Spain in June 2013, per the World Record Academy. To reach that length, a total of 7,790 sandwiches were made. But as for the most sandwiches made in an hour or in three minutes, those records are also held by other groups.
Which Wich Superior Sandwiches made the most sandwiches in an hour — 39,303, to be exact — at a Dallas Sheraton in 2016, according to The Dallas Morning News. But TangoTab and Friends beat that record in 2019 with a whopping 57,662 sandwiches made in an hour, per Guinness World Records. And students at the San Diego Jewish Academy made 868 sandwiches in just three minutes in 2019, earning them a Guinness World Record, per NBC San Diego. After reaching their record, the students donated the sandwiches they made to feed the homeless.
So, the next time you wonder about the highest-possible quantities of sandwiches or sandwich-making, consult Guinness World Records.
