The Best Sandwich At Penn Station According To 31% Of People
When you're craving a sandwich on-the-go, there are a plethora of options to choose from that aren't named Subway, which is arguably the most famous sandwich shop across the United States. There's Penn Station East Coast Subs, for instance, which started back in the '80s in Ohio, per the official site. The national chain is famous for its grilled submarine sandwiches, served with crispy fries — which are cut fresh every day — as well as their tangy hand-squeezed lemonade. You can also watch your sandwich being prepared while at the shop, and you can completely customize your order to your liking.
Penn Station's lineup of sandwiches is quite vast, too. The choices range from Philly cheesesteaks to massive club sandwiches piled high as well as the tried-and-true BLT. But, which one is the best? To find out, Mashed polled more than 612 U.S.-based readers on their favorite Penn Station sandwich. Here's which one 31% say is the most worth ordering the next time you're craving a sub.
Penn Station's cheesesteak subs are a crowd favorite
Of all the sandwiches on the menu at Penn Station, the Philadelphia cheesesteak reigns supreme, according to Mashed's poll results. The survey said 31.21% of respondents would always chose this classic sub as their favorite. According to the chain's website, it comes loaded with USDA Choice steak, melted Provolone cheese, sautéed onions and mushrooms, banana peppers, spicy brown mustard, mayonnaise, and, if you want it, pizza sauce. "Real good cheesesteak, and I grew up near Philly," one Yelp reviewer said. "Roll very crispy and meat and real cheese makes for a tasty sandwich." And if the sandwich version isn't your thing, you can also get the cheesesteak in a wrap or salad form.
So, how did the other sandwiches at Penn Station stack up in the poll? The classic Italian — which is essentially a cold-cut sub — was the second most popular pick, with 16.01% of the votes, followed by the Reuben garnering 12.58%. The club sandwich and turkey bacon ranch were neck-in-neck with 11.60% and 11.44% of the votes, respectively, and the BLT wasn't far behind, earning 9.64% of the votes. Last place went to the pizza sub, which only 7.52% of respondents dubbed their favorite at the chain.
