Jon Taffer Reveals The Dishes He Loves To Cook At Home - Exclusive
With eight seasons of "Bar Rescue" under his belt (per Paramount Network), Jon Taffer is a busy guy. The show allows him to travel all over the U.S. to help struggling bar and restaurant owners to revitalize and often save their businesses from total failure. In addition to that, Taffer hosts his own podcast, works with a number of large food brands as a consultant, speaks at countless conferences, and oversees the Taffer's Tavern restaurant franchise group, which continues to grow, as noted on his official website.
With such a busy schedule and being on the road so much, it goes without saying that Taffer dines out quite a bit. However, when he's not traveling, he actually loves to cook at home.
But what are his favorite foods to prepare in the kitchen? We went straight to the source to find out. In an exclusive interview with Mashed, Taffer dishes on his favorite meals to whip up at home — and they might surprise you.
Jon Taffer finds inspiration from other chefs when cooking at home
When it comes to cooking at home, Jon Taffer finds inspiration from the many dishes he tries in the countless restaurants he visits. "One of the greatest parts of my job is that I get to work with a different chef every week, and I get to work with some of the greatest chefs in America, so they all teach me things," he said. And that knowledge definitely influences what he cooks at home.
According to Taffer, while he switches up what he makes quite often, there are a few dishes that top his list of favorites. "I make a pretty [good] shrimp scampi, I make a great [chicken] Cacciatore," he said. "But I've got to tell you, I challenge anyone to grill a better steak than I [can]."
And as for his go-to drink of choice? You can often find Taffer sipping a Godfather, which is a mixture of scotch and amaretto. "I love to make it with Jonny Walker Blue, which is a fine scotch, it's such a great scotch. I enjoy sipping it or mixing it," he said.
You can now find the first dish from Jon Taffer's new "Enjoy at Home with Taffer's Tavern" line, the Signature Beef Shank, at Costco.
