Hi-C Is Bringing Back Its Nostalgic Ecto Cooler, But With One Big Catch
Few can deny that Hi-C Ecto Cooler made a splash when it first hit shelves decades ago. According to Food & Wine, the beverage first made its public appearance either in 1987 or 1989 and immediately struck a chord with consumers, who couldn't get enough of the product. When Coca-Cola discontinued the product in 2001, buyers everywhere started to idolize the Hi-C flavor, and some started to believe the product lived on under different names until 2007. If you remember this Hi-C flavor from years past or have just always wanted to sample it, the time has finally arrived.
According to People, some lucky fans now have the chance to get their hands on this iconic drink thanks to a product tie-in with "Ghostbusters: Afterlife." Coca-Cola plans to give away the returning Hi-C Ecto Cooler flavor to fans on social media in the form of 12-ounce plastic bottles featuring the likeness of the character Slimer. The unique flavor, a blend of tangerine and orange juice, hit shelves back in the '60s, but really found its niche in the '80s and '90s thanks to the "Ghostbusters" tie-in and the fluorescent green color. While this item can easily spark nostalgia, don't get too excited yet.
A blast from the past that is just out of reach
Unfortunately, many shoppers won't get the chance to taste the reboot of this Hi-C flavor. According to a statement sent to Mashed, don't expect to have a shot at buying this commemorative product at stores. Coca-Cola and Minute Maid don't plan to sell the item at stores, and you have to follow @DrinkHiC on social media to even receive a glimpse of how to get your hands on some of these bottles. Over on Twitter, the associated account has completely embraced the drink and might provide some clues down the road on how to score some Hi-C Ecto Cooler for yourself.
If you can't stand the idea of going one more day without this nostalgic Hi-C flavor, keep your eyes peeled for any news regarding contests or sweepstakes that could help you net a bottle or three. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed and hope to grab a bottle of this iconic drink soon. With any luck, you might just see more opportunities to try out the product when the new "Ghostbusters" film hits theaters on November 19, per People.
