Salt & Straw Wants You To Eat Ice Cream For Thanksgiving With Its New Holiday Flavors
With Thanksgiving around the corner, we've started thinking about popular Thanksgiving side dishes and how to roast our turkeys. Of course, we can't forget dessert, like pumpkin pie or these old-school Thanksgiving desserts you might want to try bringing back to the dinner table. Unless it's a scoop to go along with apple pie, ice cream probably isn't the number one thing you associate with your holiday meal. But Salt & Straw's new Friendsgiving collection might change that.
Salt & Straw is releasing a new line of Thanksgiving-themed ice cream flavors. According to a press release shared with Mashed, this includes Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream, Caramelized Turkey & Cranberry Sauce, Candied Walnut Cheesecake, Sweet Potato Pie with Double Baked Almond Streusel, and Pumpkin & Gingersnap Pie. This doesn't sound like your traditional dessert — this is the whole meal!
Skeptical of savory foods in your ice cream? While there are some desserts on Salt & Straw's list of ice cream flavors, this isn't the first time savory food has been on the dessert menu. Jeni's Everything Bagel Ice Cream also turned heads, and we're excited to see what people have to say about Salt & Straw's Thanksgiving creations.
What's in each of Salt & Straw's Thanksgiving ice creams?
While these flavors might initially shock some people, we have to say that they sound pretty delicious. Salt & Straw sent us a press release that gives us the inside scoop on what to expect. The Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream starts with buttered rolls that are churned with sweet cream and finished with sea salt. This sounds like the creamiest of all ice creams and features a delightfully sweet and salty combination.
The Caramelized Turkey & Cranberry Sauce flavor comes with turkey bacon, which, per the press release, "imparts a deliciously smoky, salty flavor that joins our housemade cranberry sauce—sweet and jammy, with a pleasant tartness to cut through the sides of savory." Candied Walnut Cheesecake has a graham cracker crumble for texture and features Spread the Love's walnut butter throughout. The Sweet Potato Pie with Double Baked Almond Streusel packs tasty bits of flaky almond croissant streusel in the ice cream with the goodness of roasted sweet potatoes. Finally, the Pumpkin & Gingersnap Pie has gingersnap made with molasses for a "delectable crunch." This final flavor is vegan, but Salty & Straw says that it's the "silkiest" thanks to "ultra-creamy coconut."
Which flavor are you most excited to try? Are you convinced that you should swap out all the dishes and have a five-course ice cream meal?
