Bachelor Matt James Makes This Smoothie For Breakfast Everyday
You have likely heard the old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day — and according to a survey by Dave's Killer Bread, it's also the favorite meal of the day for 34% of Americans (via the New York Post). But everyone has their own preference when it comes to their daily morning meal. Some like a hearty breakfast platter, with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Others prefer something much lighter, like a slice or two of avocado toast or a protein bar. And still, others enjoy classic a.m. eats, like a bowl of cereal, a bagel with cream cheese, or a couple of frozen waffles popped in the toaster.
Another breakfast idea that's risen in popularity over the last few years? Smoothies. You can make them with almost any ingredients — from almond milk to peanut butter to spinach — and they're a great way to sneak in a bunch of fruits and veggies (along with good-for-you vitamins and antioxidants) first thing in the morning. One person who's a big fan of smoothies for breakfast is former lead of ABC's "The Bachelor," Matt James. Here's how the reality star whips his up.
Matt James uses coconut water as the smoothie's base
A breakfast smoothie isn't just something Matt James enjoys every now and then — it's something he drinks daily. "I have the same thing every single day, without fail," he confessed in an interview with People, saying that, while filming his season of "The Bachelor" in Pennsylvania, he drank his homemade smoothie every morning after lifting weights or riding his Peloton. What exactly is in his breakfast beverage? Matt said he likes to start with Vita Coco coconut water and then toss in frozen fruit — specifically bananas and blueberries — peanut butter, dates, protein powder, and "other random stuff." He estimates it clocks in at a whopping 1,500 calories per glass.
And he doesn't only drink it for breakfast, either. Matt admitted he occasionally swaps it out for other meals, like dinner, too. "People think I'm crazy, like, 'You want to switch it up tonight? You could literally order whatever you want. Do you want steak? Do you want lobster? Do you want salmon?' I'm like, 'Nah, I'm going to go home and make a smoothie.'"
