Here's How Much George And Amal Clooney's Wedding Cake Really Cost
George and Amal Clooney's romance is one for the books. One of Hollywood's most charming love stories, the famous couple met for the first time through a mutual friend in July 2013, at George's Lake Como home. "I got a call from my agent who said, 'I met this woman who is coming to your house, who you're going to marry,'" George said during any appearance on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" with David Letterman. "It really worked out that way." Almost a year after the couple went on their first date, a visit to the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, the Oscar winner got down on one knee and proposed. "It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked," he to The Hollywood Reporter.
The overjoyed couple got married in an intimate, fairytale ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venice, Italy. The renowned actor and the brilliant human right's lawyer celebrated their special day with family and a few famous friends, including Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford, John Krasinski, and Emily Blunt. The fantasy ceremony was perfect down to the last detail, from Amal's custom lace Oscar de la Renta dress (via PopSugar), to the very, very expensive wedding cake (via People).
TheClooney's exquisite wedding cake cost around $7,000
The happy couple spared no expense on their special day and their wedding cake was no exception. According to People, this decadent creation was a 4-tiered, square-shaped chocolate cake. The edible masterpiece was also decorated with gold accents. "To match the dining room," Clooney explained. The cherry on top of the cake? An accented sugar piece in the same art deco style as the cake, which served as a substitute for a traditional cake topper. Cake experts at Jack and Beyond, an award winning cake shop in London, estimate that the cake cost approximately $7,000 (via Us Food). Here's hoping that guests went back for seconds!
If this seems extravagant, rest assured, this was only a small portion of the wedding's exorbitant cost. Between the pricey wedding feast and the private security, the Venetian ceremony is estimated to have cost as much as $13 million (via NY Daily News).
While the Clooney's wedding cake is about as expensive as it gets, they certainly aren't the only members of the fancy wedding cake club. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's scene-stealing vanilla and berry confection cost a staggering $6,800, while Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's lemon and elderflower creation had a $70,000 price tag (via Brides).
