The Odd Ingredient Channing Tatum Adds To Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwiches
Is there anything more perfect than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? According to The National Peanut Board, the now-classic recipe of rich peanut butter and sweet, fruity jelly in between two slices of fluffy bread was first published in 1901, but it wasn't until World War II that the PB&J really became the go-to lunch for children and adults alike. Now decades later, its popularity has remained intact, and as of 2020, the peanut butter and jelly ranked in as the 10th most popular sandwich in America in a YouGov survey (via Far And Wide). It has fans in Anderson Cooper and Ina Garten and is even a favorite for actor Channing Tatum who, despite admitting during a Reddit AMA that he's "not a very adventurous eater," has a very specific recipe for his ideal PB&J that includes quite an interesting twist.
"It's very complicated," he warned a fan who asked him what the components of his "perfect sandwich" were during the same Reddit AMA in 2015. The Magic Mike star then proceeded to lay out the parameters for his signature sammie that includes white bread, creamy peanut butter, and a "double portion of grape jelly" that should be "more than you think should actually fit on a piece of white bread." Sounds pretty normal so far, but Tatum doesn't stop there. To finish off his perfect PB&J, the actor adds one more somewhat odd ingredient that will either have you questioning his sandwich-making skills or craving one yourself.
Channing Tatum likes to add some crunch to his PB&J with this cheesy snack
Channing Tatum appears to have taken a page out of Bobby Flay's book when it comes to his perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which he revealed during his 2015 Reddit AMA that he completes with a surprising ingredient: Cheetos. The actor claimed that you're "good to go" after "shoving" a handful of the addictive, cheese-flavored snack into the lunchbox staple, and though you may cringe at the idea, this appears to be one of those "don't knock it till you try it" situations, as a number of Redditors chimed in to support Tatum's unique sandwich combination. "Can confirm deliciousness," replied Reddit user uTrueStoryBroski, who claimed they indulged in Tatum's peanut butter, jelly, and Cheeto sandwich throughout grade school. "The key is adding the Cheetos right before sandwich consumption for max crunch," they advised.
"You just described my daily lunch from ages 6-12. I think I'm going to go to the grocery store right now and pick up some PBJ&C sandwich ingredients," another Redditor wrote, while a third suggested adding some Sriracha into the mix to kick the sandwich up even further. We're not sure about you, but we're totally sold on the idea of "crunchifying" our PB&J with some Cheetos, if not for any reason other than saying we've indulged in the ideal snack of this Hollywood star. However, if you don't think you're ready to give Tatum's sandwich a go, maybe you'll enjoy one of these other unique PB&J additions instead.
