'Lose Yourself' At Eminem's New Mom's Spaghetti Restaurant
Marshall Mathers, the artist known as Eminem made the phrase "mom's spaghetti" famous in the hit song "Lose Yourself." More specifically, the artist raps, "His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti" (via Lad Bible). And while the lyrics reference vomit and nerves, it oddly still makes many of us hungry for comfort food, apparently. Recently, YouTuber Rare Eminem shared a commercial announcing that a Mom's Spaghetti restaurant would be opening. Eminem appears at the end and makes a gesture that might remind you of someone flipping the double-bird, but his hands seem to be censored by food boxes (via YouTube).
After watching the commercial commenter Dezzyx jokingly alluded to the lyrics of "Lose Yourself," writing, "The whole crowd there will open their mouths and the words won't come out. Cause their mouths are full of mom's spaghetti." When someone asked if this was happening in Detroit, Rare Eminem expressed some skepticism: "Yes it is, if [it's] even real." However, the announcement does indeed appear real. MLive reports that the voicemail for the phone number featured in the ad confirms that Mom's Spaghetti will debut in Detroit on September 29. The menu is said to include spaghetti and meatballs and a meatball-free option. S'ghetti sandwiches will also be on offer. Moreover, the eatery features "The Trailer," an Eminem merch store.
This isn't Eminem's first spaghetti venture, so based on the previous outings, we might have an idea of what to expect.
We're ready for Mom's Spaghetti
In 2017, Eminem launched a Detroit-based Mom's spaghetti pop-up that featured plain spaghetti for $5, spaghetti with meatballs for $8, and s'ghetti sandwich for $5 (via Twitter). Located at The Shelter, the pop-up also sold "pop & water" for $3 and offered merch. Coachella had a Mom's Spaghetti pop-up in 2018. The food containers displayed a heart tattoo logo. The menu boasted $12 spaghetti and meatballs, a s'ghetti sandwich for $11, and vegan meatballs for $15, plus $5 Redbulls (via Vanity Fair).
And let's not forget Mom's Spaghetti giving back to the Detroit area in pandemic-year 2020. The Henry Ford Healthcare system posted a thank you on social media with tubbed containers of carbs sharing, "Our #HealthcareHeroes 'lost themselves' in the delicious Mom's Spaghetti donated by Detroit's very own, @eminem. Thank you for providing a special meal for our team members!" (via Instagram).
So there you have it — time to lose yourself in some marinara.
