McDonald's Happy Meal Toys Will Soon Include These Beloved Disney Characters
If you are a Walt Disney World fan who happens to enjoy fast food, have we got news for you.
Beginning September 14, Disney is partnering up with McDonald's to celebrate Walt Disney World's 50th birthday by releasing a range of 50th Anniversary toys. Disney fan site Chip and Company says a good number of toys bear a striking resemblance to the "Fab 50" statues that are being put up around the park, and whose images have already been shared by the theme park. Walt Disney World is said to be planning "The World's Most Magical Celebration" and part of that will involve different characters seen as gold statues across different areas of the park. The list includes Disney originals like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, as well as Goofy and Pluto, along with "newer" additions like Rocket Racoon, Baby Groot, Olaf, and Frozone (via WDWNT).
News of the collaboration did not come from either Disney or McDonald's, but from social media sites like Instagram's geekvsfan, which shared an image showing all of the "Fab 50" characters that should soon be available for fans to own — all for the price of a Happy Meal.
Social media is all over this Disney and McDonald's collab
When it comes to Disney and McDonald's, the relationship between the two giants of American pop culture has not always been as smooth as the milkshakes McDonald's serves. After years of collaborating, Food & Wine reported that the two went on a break back in 2006 because Disney was looking to align Mickey Mouse and friends with more nutritious food choices. As a result, the Mouse House decided not to renew a 10-year partnership which would have given McDonald's the chance to continue working with the entertainment giant by distributing its toys as part of a Happy Meal deal. The discord between the two ended in 2018 after McDonald's stopped offering cheeseburgers on its kids' menu.
While the Happy Meal toys are meant for a younger target market, we have no doubt it will draw its share of adults, too. "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG There goes my bank account and diet. lmao," one user responded, after fan account @onlybreatheinthemagic, which devotes itself to Disney news, revealed news of this latest Happy Meal offer on Instagram. "[Y]ou guys better get ready for happy meals everyday for a month and a half," another Instagram user said with glee.
