Goldfish Has Good News For Jalapeño Lovers
When it comes to nostalgic snacks, Goldfish reigns supreme. The classic, fish-shaped cheddar crackers, which have been a staple of countless childhoods, are beloved by kids and adults alike. And now, a new flavor of the popular snack aims to kick the memories — and heat — up a notch.
In a press release, Campbell Snacks announced the arrival of a brand-new Goldfish flavor sure to satisfy spice lovers: Jalapeño Popper Goldfish. This limited-edition offering, which infuses the cracker's signature cheesy flavor with a little bit of heat, was inspired by the popularity of jalapeño poppers that really took hold in the '90s.
This isn't the bite-sized cracker company's first foray into the spicy snack realm, however. Goldfish previously teamed up with hot sauce company Frank's RedHot to create a limited-edition cayenne pepper-infused cracker. The hot sauce collaboration came about in response to the overwhelming online demand for a spicy version of the typically kid-approved cracker, with over 35,000 customers requesting a hotter variety.
Now, spice lovers will not only have another opportunity to experience a hit of cheesy heat, but also have the chance to scoop up some Goldfish-inspired merch with a distinctly pre-Y2K twist, too.
Goldfish also teamed up with a nostalgic fashion brand for some '90s-inspired merch
In tandem with the release of the new Jalapeño Popper Goldfish crackers, the company is also teaming up with the nostalgic '90s fashion brand JNCO for a throwback fashion partnership. In honor of the retro flavor, JNCO created a limited-edition Goldfish Jalapeño Popper JNCO Snack Pant, now available for purchase through their website. The wide-legged black denim pants feature an embroidered jalapeño surrounded by goldfish crackers, and have pockets large enough to fit a whole bag of Goldfish. While the branded jeans have a steep price tag — $200 — they do come with a free bag of the limited-edition goldfish to sweeten (or, rather, spice up) the deal.
For those who prefer to wear their love of Goldfish on their sleeve, JNCO also released a T-Shirt adorned with a neon green goldfish and the graffiti-inspired jalapeño logo, retailing for $40 on the JNCO website.
Danielle Brown, the VP of Marketing for Campbell Snacks, said that the new flavor and fashion partnership were inspired by current nostalgic trends. "Hot and spicy flavored snacks are on the rise, and so is '90s nostalgia. With a bit of heat, our savory and cheesy Jalapeño Popper Goldfish bring this unique '90s flavor to the Goldfish family," said Danielle Brown, Vice President of Marketing for Campbell Snacks, in the press release. "To take it to the next level, we connected the flavor of the '90s with the fashion of the '90s and ... it's all that!" The limited-edition Jalapeño Popper Goldfish crackers are available now at major retailers nationwide, for a suggested retail price of $2.69 per bag.
