TikTok Is Loving This UK Restaurant's Sweet Birthday Gesture
Even the simplest random acts of kindness can make the biggest difference in someone's day — or perhaps even their life. It's always heartwarming to see people go out of their way to make somebody smile, even if they are total strangers to one another. Whether it's a sincere compliment, a gift, or a gesture that means the world, even if only for a brief moment, it's always worth it. When customer service representatives, store associates, drivers, servers, and other key staff members perform selfless deeds and put their customers first, their words and actions seldom go unnoticed. And that's exactly what happened to a young woman from London that recently celebrated her birthday.
TikTok user @natbysight is an advocate for blindness awareness. Natalie herself is blind, and she uses her channel to share videos of miraculous moments in her everyday life, despite her condition, with her followers. She recently celebrated her birthday at Luciano in London, an Italian restaurant run by the famous, award-winning U.K. chef Gino D'Acampo. Let's just say she will remember more than her amazing dinner from that evening.
What did the restaurant do to make Natalie's birthday special?
After enjoying her delicious birthday meal, Natalie was greeted by the waitstaff with an edible message that took her and her friends by complete surprise (via TikTok). The chef wrote, "Happy birthday" in braille on a dinner plate with melted and hardened chocolate. "We want to wish you a happy birthday!" the waiter says as he hands over the plate. You can then hear Natalie's friend say, "I want you to give me your hand," as she guides Natalie's fingers to read the message in braille. As soon as Natalie realized what was happening, she gasped and began to laugh out of sheer joy and disbelief, exclaiming, "No freaking way! They did not! Oh my gosh! Are you kidding me?"
The uplifting TikTok was viewed more than 8 million times and liked by more than 4 million users all around the globe within 24 hours. The video itself displays an on-screen text that reads, "So I'm totally blind, and this is the moment I realized the lengths the restaurant staff went to in order to wish me a happy birthday. So take heart, despite how broken the world is right now...true kindness still exists." Giovanni Galluccio, the general manager of Luciano, told Newsweek that he was pleased to have been able to make Natalie's birthday special and was touched by the kind comments they received. "It was our absolute pleasure to share in the happy occasion," he said.
