Need A Job? Aldi Wants To Hire 20,000 People For The Holidays
In a strange turnabout from the way things were for American workers just one year ago, the U.S. job market can now be described as "bloated" with available jobs. According to the Wall Street Journal, as of the end of June 2021, the number of job openings across the country actually exceeded the number of people that are unemployed and seeking work. Although this information was culled before the most recent rise in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant, the publication noted that such a rise appears to not be changing the "buyer's market" or one that favors the job candidate.
In fact, that market has driven a number of companies to raise the stakes for job candidates by raising their wages and offering other incentives, such as promises of future wage increases. German-based discount grocer Aldi, is among these companies itching to increase their headcount and putting their money where their mouth is. The ambitious company is looking to fill 20,000 jobs in time for the holiday rush and looking to pay employees anywhere from $14 to $20 per hour.
The growing grocery chain needs to fill thousands of hourly positions
Whether or not you need a job, there are lots of jobs that need you, including at Aldi stores around the country. "Over the past several years, we've grown rapidly, expanding from coast to coast," the supermarket recently posted on its website. In connection with its self-described "aggressive growth" plans that include becoming the third-largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022," Aldi announced on August 16 that it has thousands of job openings that it intends to fill among its 2,100 stores across America (via Wall Street Journal).
Sweetening the deal even further, as companies in this buyer's job market are known for doing, the grocery store is holding a "National Hiring Week" from September 20 through September 24, during which Aldi promises candidates could be interviewed and hired on the same day. If you aren't available during National Hiring Week or you need a job sooner, then Aldi encourages you to apply now, since interviews are available both before and after National Hiring Week.
