Everything We Know About The Recent Supermarket Collapse In Nevada
Employees and customers at a La Bonita Supermarket outlet in Las Vegas got a major scare on Friday when a part of the grocery store's structure fell apart early in the morning. As per a report by ABC 7, there were at least 25 people inside the building when the incident took place. Four people were reportedly hurt. Thankfully, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
As per a statement from La Bonita supermarket, the unfortunate accident occurred in its East Desert Inn outlet. The statement read, "Our Dessert Inn location will remain closed until further notice and/or cleared by the proper authorities." The supermarket added that the exact cause remained unclear and that an investigation is currently underway to find out more about why the structure collapsed.
The company also mentioned that it would extend its full support to staff members and that they would be moved to a different location until the outlet is ready to reopen. Staff members will also be offered "medical or emotional support services."
The incident apparently happened 'out of the blue'
A staff member at La Bonita Supermarkets said that the incident was unnerving because it didn't cause a racket (via ABC 7). "I see pieces of the ceiling fall, and I turned around and go into the little thing into the street, and I see the whole thing just come down," he said, before adding, "It was weird because there was no noise, like, I don't know, out of the blue, it just happened." Some customers were stuck inside, but were quickly evacuated by authorities. As pointed out by Fox News, evacuation took place through a backdoor on the premises.
Meanwhile, the company statement noted that it would keep all its customers updated through social media. Its statement read, "At this moment, we can only thank God that this happened so early in the morning and not during busier hours." The company also expressed its gratitude to all the first responders who acted quickly and helped those in need.
