Keebler Is Bringing Back This Classic Flavor For Its Fall-Themed Fudge Stripe
Nothing screams fall like restaurants, coffee shops, and candy makers swapping summery treats for maple, pecan, and pumpkin pie-themed confections. From Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte to Dunkin Donuts' Apple Cider Donuts, the first few weeks of August have been chock full of top brands dropping their fall menus for 2021, officially and unofficially.
The most recent brand to announce its fall-themed treat is Keebler. Keebler is no stranger to giving its Fudge Stripe cookies a holiday-themed makeover every year. In 2020, it rolled out a Make-a-Wreath Cookie Decorating Kit in time for Christmas. The DIY kit came with plain shortbread cookies dipped in fudge, along with green frosting and an assortment of colorful candies for decoration (per Food Business News). It also launched Keebler Fudge Stripes Minis Wreaths, which were pre-decorated miniature versions of their Christmas cookies.
For fall 2020, Keebler-fans could find a Maple Crème version of the Fudge Stripe Cookies, and this year, the cookie makers have announced that a Pumpkin Spice version of the Fudge Stripe is set to take over supermarket shelves (via Delish).
Keebler's Pumpkin Spice Fudge Stripes made its debut in 2015
Keebler isn't coming out with a pumpkin spice version of its Fudge Stripes cookie for the first time. Delish reports that Keebler first introduced the fall-themed treat back in 2015 and continued to do so every autumn until 2018. The cookie's discontinuation might have something to do with a change in ownership of its parent company.
CSP Daily reports that Kellogg's sold Keebler, along with around seven of its other confectionery brands, to the Ferrero Group in July 2019. The $1.3 billion deal led to a few changes in Keebler's signature cookies. The Ferrero Group decided to make the Fudge Stripe cookies with "real Keebler fudge" instead of the high fructose corn syrup that was being used. Now managed by Ferrero Groups' The Ferrara Candy Company, Keebler is set to bring back the Pumpkin Spice Fudge Stripes after a three-year hiatus. Delish reports that, although the packaging of the cookie is going to have a brighter shade of orange than before, it will still have the same shortbread cookie spiced with signature pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and ginger) and a vanilla fudge drizzle on top.
The cookies will come in a 9.7-ounce pack for $3.99 and will be available in grocery and retail stores across the U.S. for a limited period of time.
