Why So Many Celebrities Are Releasing Ice Cream Flavors
There's something heartwarming about the bonding experience of sharing ice cream with a loved one. According to The Daily Meal, ice cream is packed with feel-good endorphins. Perhaps this explains why you've never been unhappy when eating your favorite frozen treat and why some celebrities are cashing in on the added bliss, releasing their own signature flavors in an effort to keep their fans screaming for — yeah, you guessed it — ice cream.
The Oregonian reports that in December 2019 Dwayne Johnson (aka "The Rock") invested in Portland-based ice cream company Salt & Straw. He also came out with his own holiday-inspired line for the brand, including the frozen concoction I Saw Mommy Kissing Dwanta Claus, per Delish. The whiskey-flavored ice cream contains peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough and a chocolate caramel fudge swirl. According to Forbes, the following Christmas, Johnson released another flavor: Dwanta's Teremana Spiked Eggnog, which includes Teremana tequila, a brand Johnson co-founded. Boozy ice cream? Talk about killing two vices with one stone.
Last summer, pop star Selena Gomez dropped her single "Ice Cream" featuring K-Pop group BLACKPINK. To promote the song, Gomez released her own flavor of ice cream: Cookies & Cream Remix. A product of Serendipity Brands, a company in which Gomez has ownership, the ice cream consists of pink vanilla ice cream, fudge swirls, and cream-filled cookies. The Rock and Gomez aren't the only ones to join the ice cream biz.
Everyone's screaming for ice cream
Not to be outdone, in March 2021, country star Dolly Parton released her own Strawberry Pretzel Pie ice cream in partnership with Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, much to the delight and taste buds of her fans, who crashed Jeni's site at launch. The flavor is reminiscent of the triple-layered dessert and is comprised of a cream cheese base with a salty pretzel streusel and topped with a strawberry sauce. Also, fans got a chance to eat those strawberry scoops for a good cause. The proceeds of Parton's limited ice cream release supported her book-gifting program, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
In April 2021, famed YouTuber and singer JoJo Siwa came out with her own flavor of ice cream as well, and you'd better believe it's as colorful and loud as the signature sequin bows she wears in her hair. Called Sweet Celebrations, the sweet treat has a sugar cookie base with colored frosting swirls and rainbow candies. The pink and purple packaging with a heart on the front surrounding the words "Live Your Dream!" practically screams Siwa.
As Fast Company suggests, ice cream is practically synonymous with fun and pleasure. Which makes us wonder what other celebrities will soon get in on the frozen fun. Stay tuned!
