Wingstop Fans Are Loving Its Response To Giannis Antetokounmpo's Hilarious Chick-Fil-A Request
The was no mucking about for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo when he decided to celebrate his team's NBA Finals win and his Finals MVP by heading to his local Chick-fil-A for 50 nuggets (one for every point he scored in the closeout game, in case you were wondering). And because his nugget moment went viral with 1.4 million views, that turned the chicken chain into a winner too. As data company MVP revealed via Twitter, "Not exactly 50, but @Giannis_An34's drive-through video generated 47 posts across Twitter, Facebook and IG. The 36.3M impressions earned @ChickfilA $294.8K in brand value."
Now, nearly $300k worth of free advertising is quite hefty, so we weren't surprised when the decorated basketball star decided to give Chick-fil-A a small social media nudge and doing what many of us would probably do: "Can I now have @ChickfilA for life?!!" he teased on his Twitter account, probably bumping up Chick-fil-A's brand value even more by giving it a further social media shoutout. Clearly wanting the "Greek Freak" to shower some love in its direction, Wingstop decided to swoop in.
Wingstop sent the basketball star an offer to consider
You can trust that if Chick-fil-A wasn't going to respond to Antetokounmpo's call for a freebie, there is one other chain willing to step up and fill his chicken void, which Wingstop did by tweeting, "We got a 50-piece with your name on it for life" with a green-heart emoji. That sent Wingstop fans flocking to the chain's social media site clamoring for the same deal. "I'm his brother he sent me. We need 100(it's not for me and my wife)," one social media user joked. "What about me?" another Wingstop fan tweeted, along with a teary-eyed emoji.
Wingstop wasn't the only restaurant to insert itself into the conversation. The Culver's restaurant chain also responded to Antetokounmpo's Chick-fil-A shoutout with an offer of its own. "How about one better?" it said. "Culver's of Shorewood co-owner George Dimitropoulos would be honored to offer you free food for life. Your loyalty to our home state is inspiring! Shoot us a DM so we can connect." To which one fan replied, "A much, much better deal. Open on Sundays too..."
