Nicolas Cage's Bizarre Food Habit Will Leave You Scratching Your Head
Celebrities are famous for their bizarre, and sometimes extreme diets. Tom Hanks reportedly ate just vegetables, fish, and coffee to prepare for a role, while Charlize Theron limited herself to "dark-colored fruits and vegetables and lean meats," according to OK! Magazine. And you can't ignore Beyonce's Master Cleanse — also known as the Lemonade Diet — which consists of drinking lemon juice mixed with maple syrup and cayenne pepper all day, every day (via U.S. News). It may sound over-the-top, but Queen Bey's juice cleanse now has a cult following.
One of the stars with one of the weirdest diets is Nicolas Cage. It shouldn't come as a surprise given that Cage is notoriously eccentric, from the fact that he owns a pyramid tomb to his stories of tripping on mushrooms with his pet cat (via Mental Floss). And what the actor eats — or rather, why he eats what he eats — is equally strange.
He chooses his food based on how the animals have sex
While some people base their diet on health or environmental factors, Cage bases his food on, well, how the animals that he's eating mate before they end up on his plate. "I actually choose the way I eat according to the way animals have sex," the actor told The Sun (via The Guardian). "I think fish are very dignified with sex. So are birds."
Based on that logic, you won't ever see Cage eating strips of bacon, a juicy burger, a rack of ribs, or anything else made of pork or beef (or any red meat, for that matter). "But pigs, not so much," he went on to say. "So I don't eat pig meat or things like that. I eat fish and fowl." But how well does he actually stick to his bizarre diet plan? Collider reports that Cage solely relied on red meat to bulk up for his most recent movie — so we have our doubts.
