Starbucks Breakfast Menu Ranked From Worst To Best
We all know that the Starbucks beverage menu is full of options to satisfy your caffeine cravings in the morning. But breakfast at Starbucks is an equally important morning ritual for many. Some stop at Starbucks on the days they are in a rush, while others make it a daily habit. The Starbucks breakfast menu ranges from breakfast sandwiches, to the popular egg bites, to bagels and spreads, and the breakfast wraps, which were one of the most popular food items at Starbucks in early 2020.
You're stopping at Starbucks for your morning coffee, and you haven't eaten breakfast yet — easy fix. But what on earth should you order? If you haven't tried the plethora of food items on the Starbucks menu, choosing between the many options on the breakfast menu can be a gamble. Which items are any good?
We break it down for you in this list of Starbucks breakfast menu items, and we've ranked them too, so you can confidently order your morning joe and your breakfast at the same time, in the Starbucks drive-thru. Starting with the worst, and working our way down to the best, this list will narrow the choices down for you.
14. Kale & portabella mushroom sous vide egg bites
The Starbucks sous vide egg bites are quite the invention. Bite-sized omelets without any of the mess. Sadly though, this newest addition to the sous vide egg bite line-up misses the mark completely if you ask us. While the other variations boast plenty of flavor, the kale and portabella mushroom sous vide egg bites lack flavor, and are full of chunks instead. The chunks, curtesy of the mushroom and kale, taste pretty bland and leave you with a strange aftertaste. It's not entirely clear what Starbucks is aiming to accomplish with this new version of egg bites. But if you're all about these new bites, and you don't need a lot of flavor, by all means go for it.
The kale and portabella sous vide egg bites are high in protein and low in trans-fat, so they can still be a good option for you if you're watching your nutritional intake. In that case though, you would be better off opting for the Egg White & Roasted Red Pepper Sous Vide Egg Bites (you'll find it much later on our list). Sacrificing flavor for nutrition (and strange tasting chunks) is not why we go through the Starbucks drive-through on an empty stomach.
13. Sausage, cheddar & egg sandwich
The Starbucks breakfast menu boasts six different variations of the classic breakfast sandwich. Take your pick from different bread options, meat options, and cheese options. The sausage, cheddar and egg sandwich is basically a classic version of a sausage-egg-and-cheese sandwich on an English muffin. We had pretty high hopes for this one, but were let down by the bland taste of this sandwich compared to the other breakfast sandwiches on the menu.
This sandwich is served with sausage, as the name implies, and the flavor of the sausage just doesn't have enough oomph to impress our taste buds. When you think breakfast sausage, you tend to think salty and savory seasonings are involved, but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case with this one. To add to the disappointment, the cheddar cheese just isn't flavorful enough to make up for the disappointing and bland-tasting sausage.
Spare yourself the disappointment and choose from one of the other five breakfast sandwich options on the menu. You can thank us later.
12. Berry trio parfait
If you like a good ol' parfait breakfast, you may be tempted to grab a cup of the berry trio parfait to go with your Starbucks beverage of choice. It looks cute with those layers in a clear cup, doesn't it? This fresh breakfast cup is made with nonfat vanilla yogurt, mixed berries, and granola. Sounds like a smart and healthy breakfast choice, but despite the high protein and low fat content, the berry trio parfait packs a whopping 25 grams of sugar per serving. Now, that just takes the fun right out of ordering a healthy breakfast.
Considering that the berry trio parfait has enough sugar to give you a sugar rush, you could have had a Starbucks chocolate cake pop instead and taken in less sugar first thing in the morning. If you're as bummed as we are by this information and you're craving a fresh and berry breakfast option, we recommend you try the strawberry overnight grains — which we'll talk about later.
11. Impossible breakfast sandwich
This hot new breakfast sandwich is no ordinary breakfast sandwich. Sure, it comes with sausage, egg, and cheese on a bun. But this time, the sausage is actually a plant-based sausage patty from Impossible Foods. It's not a fully vegan meal, but the eggs used in the Impossible breakfast sandwich are cage-free. If you are specifically looking for a plant -based sausage breakfast sandwich for dietary reasons but want to make sure it's still savory, we can tell you that this one tastes almost as good as most other breakfast sandwiches with real sausage.
The sandwich is served on a rather crispy ciabatta bun. With its savory and fatty taste, this Impossible Foods patty could almost pass as real meat... except it's not. The texture is definitely different. Looking past that may be worth it for some, but if you don't have strict dietary restrictions or preferences, we recommend just going for the real thing and choosing one of the better-tasting real meat breakfast sandwiches on the Starbucks breakfast menu.
10. Sprouted grain bagel with avocado spread
Avocado toast, anyone? Not exactly. A bagel is as basic as it gets for breakfast, and you can pretty much count on it being decent anywhere you go. Now, this combo is no exception — it doesn't disappoint, but it also doesn't have us texting our fellow avocado-loving friends either. The sprouted grain bagel is a good choice of bagel to combine with avocado, since it's vegan, made with sprouted wheat and rye, and is packed full of healthy fiber to start your morning off right. Add the popular Starbucks avocado spread and you've got yourself a trendy, fancy, avocado toast for breakfast even when you're in a rush.
Avocado is practically it's own trend. People are obsessed with avocado toast as a healthy meal. Luckily, the avocado spread is made with nothing but avocado, seasonings, and lime juice, and is actually pretty impressive for drive-through avocado. This combo is a favorite among health-conscious people who still want to get their avo-toast-breaky in a jiffy in the mornings.
9. Roasted ham, Swiss, & egg sandwich
Here's another one from Starbucks' breakfast sandwich selection. This sandwich is served on the flaky, buttery croissant bun, just like double-smoked bacon, cheddar & egg sandwich (which we'll talk about in a minute) — but this one has a more sophisticated flavor, brought to you by the hickory-smoked ham and Swiss cheese. Still, we would recommend this breakfast sandwich for the very hungry people who secretly wish they would have stopped at McDonald's for breakfast instead.
The roasted ham, Swiss and egg sandwich is a bit too greasy for our taste, but if you're into that, then by all means go ahead. Just wait until you're at the office to eat this one, because the greasy feel will give you slippery fingers, and the flaky bun could cause a big mess in your car. The roasted ham, swiss and egg sandwich should come with a cholesterol warning though, since it contains roughly 80% of your daily value of cholesterol. Let's categorize this one as a weekend-treat type of breakfast.
8. Double-smoked bacon, cheddar & egg sandwich
This is one of the breakfast menu items that puts Starbucks on the map as an actual breakfast restaurant. Out of all of the breakfast sandwiches on the menu, the double-smoked bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich is the juiciest. It tastes savory and kind of greasy, but if a fast-food breakfast sandwich is what you're looking for, look no further. The tasty fillings are served on Starbucks' signature croissant bun, which also adds to the richness of this sandwich. However, if you're looking to make a health-conscious breakfast choice on your commute, keep scrolling, because this isn't it.
The double-smoked bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich is a 500-calorie breakfast item, and reminds us of a more traditional American fast food breakfast sandwich. It's almost surprising that it came from Starbucks. Compared to the disappointing sausage, cheddar and egg sandwich, it has 10 times the flavor. Beware of how messy this sandwich is, though. The flaky croissant bun gets all over your lap in the car. And if you're not a big, filling breakfast kind of person, this is probably going to be too much for you.
7. Strawberry overnight grains
Vegan overnight oats with quinoa and chia seeds? Sign us up! Overnight oats have become popular in recent years, along with other oat-based foods as per the oat milk craze of 2020. The oats in this dish from Starbucks are soaked in coconut milk, which gives it a creamy texture and rich flavor. The only caveat here is that Starbucks added sugar to the grains and strawberry mixtures in the strawberry overnight grains. So, as healthy as this pretty cup of goodness is, it will take up a sizable portion of your sugar intake for the day. Our suggestion is to skip the sugary coffee this time, and opt for something like nitro cold brew with this meal to make sure you've got yourself a balanced breakfast.
The strawberry overnight grains have been a hit with customers, and for good reason. As one Reddit user puts it, "They're the only overnight oats I've ever had that taste good." Now, that's a bold statement that should give you the nudge to try these. Just keep in mind that the serving is pretty small. So, if you're starving and have a long day ahead of you, this little cup may not be your best bet.
6. Hearty blueberry oatmeal
Something we are very happy about, is the fact that Starbucks offers the option of a good classic bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. Sometimes you just want to feel like a kid again, or like a healthy adult who makes smart choices, even though you are in the drive-through line at Starbucks. And Starbucks does oatmeal pretty well if you ask us. The hearty blueberry oatmeal is smooth, creamy, packed full of fiber, and stewed with water only — not milk or cream like some restaurants do. The hearty blueberry oatmeal comes with chewy dried fruit, seeds, nuts, and yummy agave syrup. Our favorite toppings are the fresh blueberries, though. It's rare to find fresh berries on the Starbucks menu, so this bowl of oats is one of our favorite healthier breakfast options at Starbucks.
This may seem like a boring breakfast to some, but if you like oatmeal in general, this is a good choice for you. A healthy one, too. Keep in mind though, that the hearty blueberry oatmeal sells out quickly, so your local Starbucks may have run out of blueberries by the time you get there.
5. Egg white & roasted red pepper sous vide egg bites
Although the kale and portabella mushroom sous vide egg bites were a failed attempt at a healthier version of egg bites, this version makes us feel much better about the idea of it. Fire-roasted red peppers add robust flavor, while the spinach adds that vegetable serving we're looking for. The egg white and roasted red pepper sous vide egg bites are the only sous vide egg bites on the menu made with egg-whites and not whole eggs, so they are a little less rich compared to the others. For the health-conscious who don't mind that, however, this is a great choice.
These bites are satisfying enough to make you feel like you don't have to sacrifice flavor for nutrition. All Starbucks sous vide egg bites have a whipped and velvety texture to them, which might not be for everyone. But they taste like home-made egg muffins without the muffin tin, and we're here for it. Give them a try on your next trip to Starbucks.
4. Turkey bacon, cheddar & egg white sandwich
If the double-smoked bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich was too much for you, Starbucks has a dialed-down version of it for the health-conscious customers who are in a rush. The turkey bacon, cheddar and egg white sandwich features turkey bacon that actually tastes good, cheddar cheese, and an egg white patty served on a wheat English muffin. If you don't like to sacrifice red meat or a flaky bun for the sake of feeling better about your health, this probably will not be savory enough for you. But for the purpose that it serves, this sandwich is actually pretty flavorful and impressive.
Whoever said turkey bacon isn't bacon may want to rethink that statement, because some of us prefer the turkey bacon, cheddar, and egg white sandwich over the traditional sandwiches. With 17 grams of protein and only 5 grams of fat, it's a sensible choice for breakfast. We stand by this sandwich as one of the few good, healthier versions of a breakfast sandwich.
3.Spinach, feta & egg white wrap
Coming in hot in the top three breakfast items on our list is the popular spinach, feta and egg white wrap. Yes, it has been popular for a long while, but it's not going anywhere, anytime soon. This unique wrap is a cult favorite among Starbucks regulars and for an egg-white and veggie wrap, it is actually quite flavorful and juicy. At only 290 calories, the spinach, feta and egg white wrap packs a nutritional punch with 20 grams of protein and 3 grams of dietary fiber. How's that for a drive-thru breakfast? The spinach, the feta cheese, and the tomatoes all form a juicy spread inside of the whole-wheat wrap, making it both a healthy and delicious choice.
Many people also choose this wrap for lunch or even dinner. It's that versatile. The spinach, feta and egg white wrap is so good that we think anyone can enjoy this flavorful wrap. Give it a chance if you aren't a die-hard fan already. You won't regret it.
2. Bacon and Gruyère sous vide egg bites
Finally, Starbucks gets it completely right with the egg-bite concept. These are the most flavorful out of all of the sous vide egg bites. Starbucks went all out here and added a new kind of cheese to these — the fancy-sounding Gruyère cheese, in addition to the Monterey Jack cheese. Maybe that's the secret sauce. We were so impressed with these egg bites that we would recommend them over any of the other egg bites on the menu.
Trust us, these are a delight compared to the bland and chunky kale and portabella mushroom sous vide egg bites, which almost ruined the concept of sous vide egg bites all together. The bacon and Gruyère sous vide egg bites, on the other hand, have redeemed the Starbucks sous vide egg bites, and once you try them, you'll see why. The bacon pieces add a nice touch, since they give some texture to an otherwise mushy patty. They're basically a bacon and cheese omelet in a bite-sized patty.
1. Bacon, gouda & egg sandwich
We don't want you to miss out on this one because it could just become your favorite of them all — in fact, it probably will. The bacon, gouda, and egg sandwich is number one on this list for a good reason. This well-balanced breakfast sandwich tastes like a flavorful, gourmet version of all of the others on the Starbucks breakfast menu.
The bacon, gouda, and egg sandwich is special because it features a Parmesan frittata and flavorful Gouda cheese. Gouda cheese blows cheddar out of the water if you ask us, and the Parmesan frittata makes this one five times more savory. Plus, the sweet and savory flavor of the apple-wood smoked bacon just can't be beat. Pair this one with a nice latte or cappuccino from the Starbucks beverage menu. The combo will have you feeling like you stopped at an actual sit-down breakfast restaurant on your way to work, in a fraction of the time. Try it and see for yourself.
