Copycat Burger King Zesty Sauce Recipe
Who doesn't love a good copycat recipe? This one is brought to you by Miriam Hahn and brings one of Burger King's most popular sauces to life. Who knew that you didn't even need to go to a fast-food joint to enjoy the flavor-filled side? According to Hahn, this sauce is an excellent side because of the horseradish kick. "I think it is one ingredient that isn't used enough. I have a really good dressing with it too that everyone loves," she shares. If horseradish is up your alley, then so is this recipe.
In 2019, Business Insider reported that Burger King experienced a shortage of zesty sauce because of a shortage in one of its main ingredients — horseradish. "We are working quickly with our suppliers to maintain continuity and keep offering our guests the zesty experience they love," a spokesperson for the fast food giant said at the time. Luckily, they recovered, and the sauce is still on the menu. Thus, a national crisis was averted. Keep scrolling to find out how to make this incredible sauce that tastes just like the real deal.
Gather the ingredients for this zesty copycat sauce
The great part about this delicious sauce is that there are not a lot of ingredients involved. You'll need half a cup of mayo, one teaspoon of yellow mustard, two teaspoons of ketchup, and two teaspoons of prepared horseradish for a little bit of a kick. To round out the grocery list, you'll just need a few more things, including one teaspoon lemon juice, half a teaspoon of white vinegar, a quarter of a teaspoon of salt, a quarter of a teaspoon of sugar, a teaspoon of cayenne pepper (or less, depending on your spice preference), and three drops of soy sauce. Now, let's begin.
Mix everything together
The first step requires a bowl and a few ingredients. First, you'll want to mix together the mayo, mustard, and ketchup. Stir until it's well combined, and then you'll be ready to add a few more ingredients, including horseradish, lemon juice, and vinegar. Now stir it again, making sure everything is well incorporated. Finally, you can go on to the next step. Don't worry, just a few more stirs and you're well on your way!
Chill in the fridge to let those flavors mix and mingle
Once you have added most of the base to the bowl, you'll want to add a few more ingredients to complete the recipe. Place the sugar, salt, cayenne pepper in the same bowl as the rest of the sauce, and stir. Once you mix all of that, you can add in the soy sauce and go ahead and give it another few good stirs. Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for an hour.
Serve up your sauce
Once you have refrigerated the sauce for an hour, it is ready to be devoured. Trust us when we tell you that this zesty sauce will not last for too long. Hahn says this can be served with a variety of things. "It is great for people that love thousand island dressing but want more zip! I mostly use it for a veggie burger topping. It's also great in a falafel pita sandwich or a roasted cauliflower wrap!" she raves. You can also serve it warm on enchiladas. If you make extra, it will stay fresh in the fridge for five days.
