People love Chick-fil-A's Spicy Deluxe Sandwich recipe so much, and it's clear as to why. It's a spicy, crispy, juicy bit of perfection on a soft bun. What's not to love about that? That's why we thought it would be fun (and seriously yummy) to develop a delicious copycat recipe so you can whip up the famous spicy chicken sandwich whenever you'd like to, right in your own kitchen.
Food blogger and recipe developer Erin Johnson of Probably in the Kitchen came up with this mouthwatering Chick-fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich copycat recipe, and we are so here for it. The good news is, cooking this delicious treat at home is not only super easy, but it's also pretty inexpensive to make. If you've been dreaming of your favorite spicy, crispy, juicy chicken sandwich, today is your lucky day! Here's how to make it on your own at home any day, any time, and without the pressure cooker Chick-fil-A uses for their sandwich.
Gather the ingredients to prepare this copycat Chick-fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich recipe
To make this copycat Chick-fil-A sandwich, you'll need four boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or two chicken breasts butterflied), ½ cup of milk, one egg, 1 cup flour, 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons of kosher salt, 1 teaspoon of ground pepper, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1 cup of oil for frying, lettuce, a sliced tomato, four slices of Pepper Jack cheese, and four buns.
You'll also need hot sauce, of course. After all, you have to put the spice into this spicy sandwich. Johnson recommends Texas Pete hot sauce for this dish, so be sure to have that on hand as well. Then, you're ready to get started!
Grab the milk and eggs, and get ready to coat the chicken
It's time to start making your copycat Chick-fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich. Grab a bowl, in addition to your milk and eggs. Crack the eggs into the bowl, and add the milk. Then, beat them together. Add the chicken to the mixture, and make sure it is thoroughly coated.
Alternatively, you can put the egg and milk mixture into a plastic bag and add the chicken to that. Massage the mixture into the chicken. Then, set it aside.
Prepare the breading for the chicken, and heat up the skillet
The next step on the way to your yummy copycat Chick-Fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich is to create the breading for the chicken. Gather together your flour, sugar, salt, pepper, and paprika. Place the ingredients into a bowl (a shallow bowl is best), and mix them together until fully blended.
Take the oil, and add it to a heavy skillet, Dutch oven, or cast iron pan. Heat it up on a medium-high flame until the oil reaches 360 F. Pro tip: A drop of flour in the oil will bubble immediately when it is hot enough.
Fry the chicken
Take your chicken out of the milk and egg mixture, and put it into the flour mixture. Press down to ensure it is fully coated. Turn it over, and do the same with the other side.
Carefully place the chicken into the pan with the oil. Fry for about six minutes on each side. The chicken should be golden brown when fully cooked and have an internal temperature of 165 F.
Dredge the milk-and-egg-coated chicken in the flour mix, and press the chicken down into it to coat well.
Put together your copycat Chick-fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich
When the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the pan, and place it on a paper towel to blot excess oil from the chicken. Pour your hot sauce into a bowl large enough to dunk the chicken in, and coat both sides generously with the hot sauce. Then, top the chicken with Pepper Jack cheese, and allow it to rest for five minutes before putting it on the bun.
Get ready to enjoy your deliciously crunchy and spicy chicken sandwich
Once the chicken has rested for five minutes, it's time to finish putting together your copycat Chick-fil-A Spicy Deluxe Sandwich. Grab a plate, and place the lettuce and tomato onto the bottom part of the bun. Add the cheese-topped chicken to the bun, and put the other half of the bun top on. Repeat with each piece of chicken. Put some hot sauce in a small bowl for necessary dipping purposes. Then, enjoy!
