Chocolate Lover's Pudding Pie Recipe
When it comes to the task of whipping up a tasty, non-traditional dessert dish, it can oftentimes be a little hard to think of something unique. Cookies and cakes are great, but they're totally a "been there, done that." A plus of Instant Jell-O Pudding pie is that it makes you feel like a world-class chef, but it requires little to no prep and barely any cook time. Keep in mind that the overall prep time of this recipe includes the time the chocolate pudding is chilling in the fridge. And depending on the brand of crust you select for this dessert, the cook time may vary. However, it's as simple as popping the crust into the oven, and just waiting for it to be done. Sounds easy enough, right?
Recipe developer Jason Goldstein of Chop Happy is the mastermind behind this tasty dessert, and he loves it for several different reasons that we can all totally relate to. "I love how super easy this is! It is the perfect recipe for the non-baker," Goldstein raves. He also says that you can use vanilla instead (or any other pudding flavor) if you aren't a huge fan of chocolate. He shares that traditional pie crust works best in this recipe.

Gather the ingredients to prepare this Instant Jell-O Pudding pie
There's not much to this quick and easy dish, which is one of the reasons why we are so here for it. All you need is one package of Jell-O Chocolate Instant Pudding, in addition to a few cups of cold milk. Goldstein recommends using whole milk if you have the option. "I think you should stick to whole milk, because the fat in the milk [will] help the pudding fluff up," he shares. As far as dough goes, store-bought pie dough is best, and it is baked according to the package instructions, which is typically 10 to 15 minutes. A little whipped cream or Cool Whip tops off this delightful treat.
Mix up the Jell-O Chocolate Instant Pudding
For the first step, you'll want to mix the pudding mix in a bowl with the cold whole milk. Take out your whisk, and whisk away for about two minutes. Within that time frame, the mixture should thicken up and begin looking more like a filling than liquid. Put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill. Chilling will help it to reach its peak flavor and consistency, much like actual Jell-O.
Add the pudding to the baked pie crust
Once the mixture is fully chilled, grab the pie dough that has already been baked, and put the filling into the pie dough shell, making sure the pie crust has completely cooled. That's literally all that it takes to finish this dessert. Now, it's time to enjoy. Goldstein recommends adding whipped cream or Cool Whip on top to complete the dish. You can also grate some chocolate on the top for extra chocolatey goodness and an aesthetically pleasing presentation.
This delicious dessert will stay good for about a week in the fridge. Alternatively, according to Goldstein, you can keep it in the freezer for up to six months, then top it off with some fresh whipped cream after it defrosts.
