Copycat Chick-Fil-A Chick-N-Minis Recipe
What is it about miniature sandwiches that makes them so darn delicious? From cheesy, juicy sliders, to ham and cheese tea sandwiches, to the Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis, it's hard to say no to miniature eats like these. Maybe, in the case of the Chick-n-Minis, it's because when you nestle a bit-sized nugget between two soft, warm pieces of bread, lathered in a sweet honey butter spread, you create a sandwich that's just undeniably irresistible. Yes — that has to be it.
And simple is the name of the game here. When you use pre-made, frozen chicken nuggets and pre-made (as in just bake and serve) rolls, this recipe takes mere minutes of prep work and about 20 minutes of cook time. Want to save even more time? We have you covered with that. "If you want to make these in advance, cook the chicken the day before, put it in the fridge, and reheat in the oven while you cook the rolls," says recipe developer Erin Johnson of Probably in the Kitchen. "Alternatively, you can make your own," Johnson says. "Simply use the [Mashed copycat Chick-fil-A chicken strip] recipe, but cut the chicken into nugget-sized pieces. You could even make these the night before and just reheat in the morning."
Any way you make these delicious little sandwiches, you'll be so glad you did. So, let's get to cooking. You can thank us for this incredible recipe later.
Gather the ingredients to whip up these copycat Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis
There are just four ingredients used to make these Copycat Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis sandwiches. Those ingredients include frozen Southern Style Chicken Nuggets, a package of frozen Parker House Style yeast rolls (thawed per the package's directions), 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1 teaspoon of honey.
"If you have pre-made honey butter, feel free to use that," says Johnson, however, she adds, "I like to make my own so that I can control the level of sweetness." And if you do want to make your own breaded chicken or even the rolls from scratch, you certainly can if you have some extra time.
Cook the rolls and the chicken
First things first: Preheat your oven to 350 F. Then, cook the rolls per the package instructions (usually this is at 350 F for between 12 to 15 minutes, but consult your specific brand for the correct cook time). Keep an eye while the bread cooks, as if it burns or even much toasts, it will lose that tender softness you want here.
As soon as the rolls are cooking, prep and then cook the chicken per the package instructions. For pre-cooked chicken nuggets like the ones we're using in this recipe, the cook time will likely be just a couple minutes shorter than with the rolls, so you can spread the nuggets out in a baking sheet, and pop them in to cook just after.
Mix up the honey butter, then remove and slice the rolls
While the rolls and biscuits are cooking, heat the butter for 15 seconds in the microwave to soften it. Note that you do not want melted butter, just softened butter, so alternately, you could leave it out at room temperature for a half hour or so before use.
Combine the honey and the softened butter in a small bowl, and mix them together until they are well blended, then set them aside.
When the rolls are lightly browned, remove them from the oven and cut the "sheet" of rolls in half to form one top and bottom section. "If cutting the entire pan of rolls in half is intimidating, just do them individually," says Johnson. Now is also the time to get the chicken out of the oven.
Assemble and enjoy your copycat Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis
Use a butter knife or small spatula and rub a little of the honey butter on the tops of the rolls, then put one chicken nugget into each roll. Close each up with the other half of the bread, and then serve them immediately.
If you're looking for paring ideas when serving these little sandwiches, Johnson has you covered. "These are usually a breakfast item, so I am team hash brown all day with these," she says, adding, "or fresh fruit [would be a great pairing] if you're looking [for a healthy option]."
Just plan on enjoying these sandwiches while they're fresh, as they won't keep well once everything is cooked and assembled.
