Why Travis Scott's New Spiked Seltzer Sold Out In Under 24 Hours
Travis Scott fans could have told Anheuser-Busch executives this was going to happen — no matter how much of the hip-hop star's new line of hard seltzer you brewed, it wasn't going to be enough. Everything Scott puts his name on sells out. Anheuser-Busch learned this the hard way this week with its latest entry in the crowded field of spiked seltzer, Cacti, a brand that has Scott's fingerprints all over it. He helped develop everything from the drink's taste to the design on the cans, according to PR Newswire.
Cacti is stronger than most hard seltzers at 7 percent alcohol. It's made with Mexican blue agave (because Scott is fond of tequila) and comes in three flavors: lime, pineapple, and strawberry. If all that sounds good, and you're thinking of buying some, don't get your hopes up. After Cacti hit shelves March 15, thousands of stores across the U.S. sold out of the beverage in less than 24 hours. Cacti sold out online in under 12 hours, per Us Weekly.
"Several of (the stores) are saying that they have never seen anything like this before," Anheuser-Busch CEO, Michel Doukeris, told CNBC (via NBCDFW). "We are ramping up now production and delivery because we sold out completely yesterday." A spokesperson for the brewer told Complex that at one Los Angeles grocery chain, Cacti sold four times more in one day than the best-selling seltzer sells in a week.
If Travis Scott is selling it, then it's going to sell out
There is good news for fans of Scott's new hard seltzer, or for people who haven't had a chance to try Cacti yet. The @cacti Instagram account said stores are restocking as quickly as they can, and you should call ahead to see if Cacti is available near you. Online sales will resume at drinkcacti.com next week. However, Cacti's runaway success shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed Scott's business career.
His Nike Air Jordan 1's from 2019 sold out in a matter of hours, according to Bloomberg. He designed a $50 box of Reese's Puffs cereal that sold out in 30 seconds, per USA Today. Last September, the Travis Scott meal at McDonald's was so popular, that America's biggest fast food chain couldn't restock the ingredients at its locations quickly enough (via QSR and CNBC). Since Scott's fans seem to love everything he loves, right down to his favorite McDonald's meal, then it might be worth mentioning that the rapper's favorite Cacti flavor is strawberry (via Complex). You just have to hope you can find it.
