Almost A Third Of All People Think This Is The Best Cheese
A lot of people would agree that the trick to making any dish better is adding cheese. After all, some of the tastiest, most comforting foods are centered around it: macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, and of course, pizza. And while you're familiar with some of the most popular cheeses — like cheddar, brie, and mozzarella, for instance — there are more than 1,800 different types of cheese in the world, according to Wisconsin Cheese.
But of all the thousands of cheeses out there, which one do you gravitate towards when you step up to the deli counter? Mashed decided to find out via a YouTube poll. We surveyed over 29,000 people worldwide on their favorite kind of cheese, the categories being Swiss, American, pepper jack (a variant of Monterey Jack), and "other." The results were surprisingly close, but there was one type of cheese that won over nearly a third of respondents. Here's the number one cheese based on our findings.
American cheese is popular around the world
According to our poll, 31 percent of people around the world deemed American cheese as their favorite cheese. You may think of it as those individually-wrapped slices of yellow cheese from Kraft, but American cheese is more than that. Taste of Home explains that many varieties of American cheese are actually a few different types of cheeses blended together, most commonly cheddar, Colby, and the likes (hence the bright orange color).
As for how the other cheeses fared, the "other" category came in second place with 28 percent of the votes. Some of the most popular write-ins included cheddar, parmesan, mozzarella, and asiago. It was followed by pepper jack, which 21 percent of people dubbed their favorite, and then Swiss, which only received 18 percent of respondents' votes. Regardless of how the cheeses stacked up, however, many people agreed it was a tough choice. "That's like asking which of my kids is my favorite," one person wrote.
