The Truth About Florida Georgia Line's Whiskey
Florida Georgia Line, the Grammy award-winning duo, consists of singers Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. According to allmusic.com, the pair met while attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. While still in school, Kelley and Hubbard played local bars, writing and practicing in their off time. With Kelly from Northern Florida, and Hubbard from Southern Georgia, the duo easily decided to perform together under the name Florida Georgia Line.
After self-releasing an EP in 2010, the duo gained a following. They signed a publishing deal shortly after, and in 2013, their song "Cruise", a collaboration with Nelly, reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, staying on the charts for 54 weeks. The band followed with a string of additional hits.
Capitalizing on their fame, the duo opened FGL House, a restaurant and club in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2016, they launched their own whiskey, called Old Camp whiskey, reports Sounds Like Nashville.
A whiskey with a connection to both Florida and Georgia
Old Camp is a peach pecan flavored whiskey, representing the home states in which Hubbard and Kelley were raised. Georgia is known as the "peach state," according to todayingeorgiahistory.com. For their part, pecans are harvested in north and central FLorida. Combined, the two flavors give the whiskey an "easy drinking" feel, according to the Old Camp website.
The Distillerytrail website reports that Old Camp is a blend of American whiskeys. Each whiskey is aged for at least two years in white American oak barrels. The whiskey is then infused with peach and pecan flavors and bottled. The 70 proof whiskey is distributed through Proximo Spirits, a distributor and importer that represents brands like Jose Cuervo tequila, Hangar 1 vodka, and the Kraken rum. In 2018, Old Camp released a special USO tribute bottle.
The whiskey is available throughout the United States and in much of Canada. Old Camp retails for about $18 for a 750 ml bottle. The brand is closely connected with the Florida Georgia Line, and has a social media campaign asking fans of the whiskey and band to share pictures using the hashtag #OldCampWhiskey.
