Trader Joe's Fans Are Freaking Out About This Dairy-Free Cold Brew Boba Ice Cream
Did you cut dairy out of your diet, but still love the taste of ice cream? Are you a fan of both iced coffee and bubble tea? Then Trader Joe's has just released a brand new item that you are definitely going to want to grab on your next grocery run. The grocery store is now selling a new dairy-free cold brew ice cream with boba for just $4.29 per pint. The unique frozen treat is made with coconut milk instead of regular milk, flavored with sugar and ground coffee beans, and sprinkled with tapioca pearls (via Reddit).
However, while it is dairy-free, customers should be warned that it is not necessarily a healthier, lower-calorie alternative to traditional ice cream. It is still an indulgent dessert, with each serving of two-thirds of a cup containing 230 calories, 9 grams of fat, and 24 grams of total sugar, according to the label.
The popular Instagram account @traderjoesobsessed shared the new find with their followers, writing: "I neeedddd to get my hands on this ASAP...My dear friend spotted it today in CT! These are all my favorite things in the world in one cup! Who needs this????" They added, "the new stuff keeps on coming and I love it," and they certainly weren't the only ones.
Some Trader Joe's customers were skeptical about the boba ice cream
Many of their Instagram followers seemed to agree that this ice cream was a must-try Trader Joe's item. Follower @borislukatskiy celebrated: "OMG THIS IS A GAME CHANGER," while @ami.mixx joked: "whaaaaaat.. must.. procure for work.. FOR SCIENCE." Another user, @katenaz, replied: "yummy! I love that it's made with coconut milk."
However, some people did express doubts about the combination of ice cream and boba. "But what is the consistency? Have you ever had tapioca that were not 'cooked' all the way, they are hard and pretty gross," user @tatzatron posted. "I'd probably like it without the Boba," another user, @tr1zo, agreed. However, this is far from the first time boba has shown up in a frozen dessert, with the Brown Sugar Boba Ice Milk Bar turning heads last year, with a tapioca pearl that retained its chewy texture despite being frozen.
So depending on how particular you are about the texture of tapioca, you may or may not be enamored of Trader Joe's new frozen dessert. But there is only one way to tell if this ice cream is worth all the hype — you'll just have to grab a spoon and try the non-dairy treat for yourself.
