Quiznos Sandwiches Ranked From Worst To Best
Once upon a time, Quiznos was an up-and-coming sandwich restaurant that seemed capable of passing Subway in popularity. Compared to Subway's relatively cold offerings, the toasted subs on Quiznos' menu looked like the wave of the future. Unfortunately, for a multitude of reasons ranging from unhappy franchisees to horrendous commercials, their popularity plummeted. Quiznos went from having nearly 5,000 locations in 2007 to, ten years later, having under 400 locations.
Thankfully, Quiznos has been able to weather the storm, even after they were forced to file for bankruptcy in 2014 (via CNN). While this fast food sandwich restaurant is still more difficult to find than it once was, you'll be rewarded with yummy sandwiches if you can track down a location and pick the right item from the Quiznos menu.
To avoid getting stuck with a yucky Quiznos sandwich, consult this ranking before you start your travels. We've listed Quiznos sandwiches, beginning with the worst and finishing with the best and most ultimate choice.
15. Apple Harvest Chicken
If you order the Apple Harvest Chicken sandwich at Quiznos, the regret you feel will be palpable. It's almost comical how bad this thing tastes. Judging by the name, you'd think this is a wholesome sandwich that any red-blooded American would enjoy, as an apple harvest precedes apple pie and apple pies are synonymous with America. However, there's nothing wholesome about the Apple Harvest Chicken sandwich, as it's just an ill-conceived mishmash of oddly paired ingredients.
The forgettable sandwich begins with a gross chicken salad that is made with honey Dijon mustard. The quality of the chicken is okay but the texture of the mustard is too watery and the mustard flavor is too light. From there, apple slices, dried cranberries, and pumpkin seeds are added. To top it off, lettuce, cucumber slices, tomato slices, and honey mustard dressing get thrown in. Even if you think you like each of these ingredients individually, the combination is disgusting. Pick anything else on the Quiznos menu and you'll be much happier.
14. Turkey Ranch & Swiss
Unless you're the world's dullest individual, stay away from the Turkey Ranch & Swiss sandwich. This boring Quiznos menu item will put your taste buds to sleep. In fact, you probably won't even be able to finish eating the sandwich before you get so bored that you give up and move on to something else.
Individually, the ingredients on the Turkey Ranch & Swiss sandwich aren't bad and there's certainly nothing wrong with the quality. The problem is that none of the ingredients are capable of playing a starring role or stealing the spotlight. The slices of turkey don't have much flavor. The Swiss cheese is mild. The ranch also doesn't have much pizzazz. While you can find great ranch at other fast food restaurants, Quiznos ranch is average at best. The only two ingredients left are tomato slices and lettuce — and neither of those ingredients will be able to stop you from yawning.
13. Baja Chicken
There's a lot to like about the Baja Chicken sandwich that Quiznos sells. However, there's one thing that ruins what would otherwise be a fine sandwich. First, let's start with the positives. The pieces of chicken are yummy. The slices of gooey cheddar cheese will cause you to salivate. The chipotle mayonnaise is even better than you're imagining and the diced onions are a plus. If Quiznos would have stopped at this point when creating this sandwich, it'd be a whole lot higher in this ranking.
Tragically, Quiznos ruined this sandwich by adding barbecue sauce. Typically, barbecue sauce on a sandwich isn't anything to complain about. But this isn't just any barbecue sauce. This sauce is terrible. It has a strong vinegar flavor and a chemical-like aftertaste. Compared to grocery store barbecue sauce, this stuff is worse than anything you would find on the shelves.
If you really, really want the Baja Chicken sandwich, do yourself a favor and ask for no barbecue sauce. Without it, you'll be reasonably pleased with your order.
12. Spicy Monterey
The Spicy Monterey sandwich is a lot like the Baja Chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches have a lot of positive attributes. Unfortunately, both sandwiches also have one fatal flaw that makes a recommendation impossible.
The two types of meat that are included on the Spicy Monterey sandwich are ham and turkey. As previously mentioned, the sliced turkey isn't anything to write home about. That said, the ham is able to pick up the slack in the flavor department. This sandwich also has provolone cheese that is of excellent quality. Additionally, this thing features tomato slices, pickles, lettuce, and a generous slathering of mayonnaise. So far, so good.
It's not barbecue sauce that ruins the Spicy Monterey sandwich. Instead, it's something Quiznos refers to as Four Pepper Chili Sauce. As you can guess from the name of the sandwich, this chili sauce is used to add spice. Sadly, it's simply not a flavorful or enjoyable type of spiciness. In truth, the Four Pepper Chili Sauce is just too peppery and too harsh. While not as terrible as the barbecue sauce, you'd be better off avoiding this chili sauce, too.
11. Chicken Carbonara
The Chicken Carbonara sandwich makes for a strange meal. This thing doesn't taste like anything else you've ever eaten before. If you can deal with the odd mix of flavors and a few peculiar textures, you may be able to derive some enjoyment from this sandwich. But on the other hand, there will be people who will end up believing that the Chicken Carbonara sandwich is just too weird and they won't enjoy it at all.
This Quiznos creation starts with a scrumptious trio of grilled chicken, bacon, and provolone cheese. However, this is when things begin to get strange. The weirdness begins with a pile of mushrooms that have a distinct and unpleasant rubbery texture. If chewy mushrooms are a deal-breaker, you'll certainly be dismayed. Next, the sandwich is slathered in an Alfredo sauce that actually tastes more like liquified parmesan cheese. The sauce doesn't taste bad, mind you, but it's certainly bizarre and not in fitting with the flavor profile you might expect from this sandwich.
Taste-wise, the Chicken Carbonara sandwich isn't fully awful. Ultimately, you have to consider if you're willing to deal with rubbery mushrooms and the liquified parmesan sauce. Your answer to that question should determine whether you should ever order this Quiznos offering.
10. Honey Bacon Club
While Wendy's has their Frosty and McDonald's has their Baked Apple Pie, Quiznos doesn't have any famous desserts. But that doesn't mean that they don't have anything sweet on their menu. In fact, their Honey Bacon Club sandwich is so sweet that it's obnoxious.
This sandwich features a lot of quality ingredients. It starts with turkey slices, ham slices, and bacon, a trio of meats that is sure to delight. Then, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions are added to the mix. Finally, the sandwich is drenched with a honey-infused French dressing. To say that this dressing has an overwhelming amount of sweetness would be an understatement. It's basically just as sweet as regular honey, and just as odd a sauce as if you had drenched this sandwich in honey.
If you have a sturdy sweet tooth that is always begging for nourishment, then the Honey Bacon Club from Quiznos is a choice that will probably satisfy you, but perhaps only you and precious few others. Conversely, if you don't want to have to deal with a supreme amount of sweetness, simply pick another sandwich.
9. Honey Mustard Chicken
If you feel like taking a risk, order the Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich. If you get lucky, you'll give the sandwich two thumbs up. But if you get unlucky, you'll shake your head with disappointment as you try to shove a mundane sandwich into your face.
The Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich has, of course, grilled chicken and honey mustard. Swiss cheese, tomato slices, lettuce, and diced onions also come along for the ride. So far, this is a decent sandwich that you won't hate, assuming you're fine with honey mustard. However, the final ingredient is the most important, as it adds a much-needed amount of pizzazz and vivacity to the equation. That ingredient is bacon, the fascinating food that makes almost everything taste better.
If only a few pieces of bacon appear on your Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich, you will have gambled and lost. The resulting sandwich won't be horrible but it will be utterly monotonous. Then again, if you win the gamble and your sandwich is blessed with a lavish amount of bacon, you and your taste buds will be in a state of true bliss.
8. Veggie Guacamole
Vegetarians who are thinking about either going to Quiznos or Subway to get a veggie sandwich should go to Quiznos every time. Compared to the dull Veggie Delite sandwich from Subway, the Veggie Guacamole from Quiznos is a party that will rock your world, at least when your world revolves around vegetables.
Subway's snoozefest of a sandwich only has spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and cucumbers on it. The Veggie Guacamole sandwich puts that to shame by featuring lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, mushrooms, green peppers, cucumbers, and black olives. The party doesn't stop there, as the sandwich also has provolone cheese, cheddar cheese, red wine vinaigrette, and guacamole. The result is a Quiznos sandwich that utterly blows Subway's version out of the water.
Don't be surprised if your favorite part of this sandwich is the guacamole. While most fast food places have pretty iffy guacamole all around, that's not the case at Quiznos. Though it doesn't compare to the guacamole that your abuela makes, it's flavorful and more authentic than you'd predict.
7. Tuna Melt
Another area where Quiznos dominates Subway is when it comes to tuna sandwiches. Subway's version not only tastes bad, but it has also led to a lawsuit accusing the fast food chain of fraud. The lawsuit claims that the sandwich doesn't have any actual tuna in it. Even if that suit ends up being frivolous, that sandwich isn't good enough for you to ever order it.
The Tuna Melt sandwich from Quiznos, though, is definitely worth ordering. It's not the best tuna sandwich you've ever eaten but it's leaps and bounds better than what Subway has on their menu. This thing features a tuna salad that is made with tasty tuna, rich, thick mayonnaise, and a little bit of red wine vinaigrette. It also has pickles that add a wonderful amount of sourness to the sandwich. To finish off the sandwich, slices of tomatoes and melty cheddar cheese is added on top. From your very first bite, you'll be convinced to never go back to Subway's tuna sandwich again.
6. Southwest Chicken
On paper, the Southwest Chicken sandwich from Quiznos looks to be too simple to be a worthwhile selection. Inside the bread, you will only find four things. But while it's not the most complicated sandwich in all the land, your taste buds won't even think about fussing. The Southwest Chicken sandwich begins with grilled chicken and slices of cheddar cheese. Then the fiesta is kicked up a notch with the addition of guacamole and chipotle mayonnaise. This combination adds a really pleasurable amount of spice and flavor diversity.
If you want even more spicy goodness, consider switching out the bread. Typically, the Southwest Chicken sandwich is served on white bread. However, you can drop the white bread and go with jalapeno cheddar bread instead. By making that switch, you increase the heat and make each bite a spicy adventure. Be sure to have a cold drink at your side in case the situation gets too hot.
5. Peppercorn Steak
The Peppercorn Steak sandwich is one Quiznos menu item that's always worthy of a recommendation. If this is your go-to sandwich at Quiznos, that'd be understandable. To be clear, it's not the best of the best, but it's nonetheless reliable. It's a sandwich you could eat every day and not get bored with its taste or texture.
Thinly sliced steak is the main ingredient in the Peppercorn Steak sandwich. Quiznos tends to put a lot of steak on this sandwich so it's very unlikely that you'll feel shortchanged. Beyond the meat, you'll find provolone cheese and a pile of onions that have been expertly sauteed. Last but certainly not least is the peppercorn sauce. This sauce is fantastic. In fact, it's the best sauce Quiznos adds to any of their sandwiches.
What's in the peppercorn sauce? Quiznos keeps it a secret but it tastes like a combination of cream, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, and whole peppercorns.
4. Classic Italian
If an Italy-inspired sandwich is what you're craving, you can't go wrong with the Classic Italian sandwich from Quiznos. This bad boy is stuffed to the max with Italian goodness.
There are four different types of meat on this sandwich. First, there's ham, which tastes good but is the most forgettable of the four. The next two are pepperoni and salami. Both of these meats are excellent and add unmistakable flavor to the sandwich. But the best meat on the Classic Italian sandwich is the delicious capicola. If you've never tried capicola before, it's somewhat similar to prosciutto.
The fun doesn't stop at the meats. This sandwich also features banana peppers, black olives, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. Before the friendly Quiznos employee hands you the sandwich, red wine vinaigrette is drizzled on everything. If you want even more Italian excitement, upgrade the white bread to rosemary parmesan bread. You won't be sorry.
3. Chipotle Steak & Cheddar
The Chipotle Steak & Cheddar sandwich at Quiznos is savory to the nth degree. If you're in the mood for a savory meal, you can't beat this beautiful beast. The gloriousness starts with the fact that this sandwich comes standard with rosemary parmesan bread instead of white bread. Then, you're met with intermingled layers of sliced steak and sliced cheddar cheese. Next, sauteed onions and sauteed peppers are lovingly added to the sandwich. Last, chipotle mayonnaise is liberally spread on the bread.
Not only is the savoriness off the charts when you order the Chipotle Steak & Cheddar sandwich, the sauteed veggies add an unforgettable blast of freshness with every bite. If you're following a low-carb diet, order this sandwich as a salad. At Quiznos, you can ask for any sandwich to be made into a salad, which basically means that they'll hold back the bread and serve it to you in a bowl instead.
2. Traditional
The Traditional sandwich at Quiznos may have a boring name but there's nothing boring about how it tastes. Why don't they use a more descriptive name? That's a really good question — but you won't care about that query after you see for yourself how spectacular this sandwich tastes.
The same thinly sliced steak that is in the aforementioned Chipotle Steak & Cheddar sandwich and Peppercorn Steak sandwich makes an appearance in the Traditional sandwich. Alongside the steak are slices of ham and slices of turkey. Extra gooey cheddar cheese is joined by lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and black olives.
The one decision you need to make when you order the Traditional sandwich is what dressing you should pick. It comes with ranch but you can do better, especially considering that Quiznos has a long list of possible dressings and sauces. For the Traditional sandwich, switch out the ranch for herb oil, tzatziki, or even the peppercorn sauce and you'll be overjoyed.
1. French Dip
Order the French Dip sandwich at Quiznos and you'll be in for a fun and memorable ride. Try it once and you will hesitate before ever trying anything else on their menu.
Slices of black angus steak are what will first catch your eye. Then there's the sauteed onions and the Swiss cheese that embrace the steak. A creamy horseradish sauce joins the fun to keep you on your toes. The horseradish isn't super spicy but it adds the perfect amount of kick to ensure that every mouthful is a trip.
As is the case with many French dip sandwiches, this legendary Quiznos menu item comes with a side of au jus. Even if you go to a fancy French restaurant, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better tasting au jus. The melt-in-your-mouth texture of the sandwich after you dip it in the au jus is euphoric. By the time you're finished, you'll agree that this is undoubtedly the best Quiznos sandwich.
