Krispy Kreme Donuts Taste Best At This Temperature
Dunkin Donuts may have nailed the cake donut, but Krispy Kreme has nailed the glazed donut. Fried and covered in a sugary vanilla coating, the fluffy yeast donuts were born out of a tiny stand in Winston-Salem, N.C., back in 1937 and quickly grew to be a huge hit. Krispy Kreme donuts can now be found across the country, including in grocery stores and convenience shops. The popular sweets brand now makes a staggering 20 million donuts per year (via Insider).
Maybe you enjoy a glazed donut with your morning coffee on your way to work or maybe it's your evening snack before bed. No matter when you eat it, many would argue that Krispy Kreme donuts taste delicious anytime, anywhere. However, there's actually a specific temperature where the doughy delights are at its peak flavor and texture. Here's when you should be sinking your teeth into one of the iconic glazed donuts.
Krispy Kreme Donuts should be cooked at this temperature
The absolute best time to enjoy a Krispy Kreme donut is fresh out of the oven, Delish reports. The donuts go through a "glaze bath," where the sugary coating is heated to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the glaze cools, the donuts are prime for eating — which is where the Hot Light sign comes in. Since 1992, Krispy Kreme shops have a "Hot Donuts Now" sign in their window that lets customers know when there's a new batch of freshly-glazed donuts ready for eating. (You can also download the Hot Light app on your phone to be notified from a distance).
Even if you miss the donuts' peak eating time, you can still recreate the warm, gooey experience at home. According to Foods Guy, you can reheat Krispy Kreme donuts in the oven (for two to five minutes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit) or in the microwave (for about eight seconds).
