McDonald's Has Good News For Fans Of Its Shamrock Shake
With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, we can start getting emotionally ready for the return of our favorite green treats. It just wouldn't feel like March if we couldn't get our hands on a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's, and lucky for us, the fast-food mega chain plans to bring back this iconic drink. According to Delish, McDonald's plans to bring the shake back for a consecutive year in a row for the first time ever, making the drink available at participating restaurant locations across America. If you have never experienced this shake before, you need to visit a McDonald's soon — the confection features vanilla soft serve, "Shamrock Shake" flavoring, whipped topping, and loads of green color to get you in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day (via Delish).
This particular milkshake has a fairly long history at McDonald's that stretches back for decades. According to Chow Hound, the Shamrock Shake first appeared in the 1970s and featured a lemon-lime flavor, thanks to a blend of vanilla soft serve and lemon and lime sherbet! Between 1973 and 1983, the chain removed the citrus sherbet and dyed the shake green, with the signature minty flavor only appearing in 1983 (via Chow Hound). If you can't wait to get your hands on this trademark dessert, just wait until you hear what else McDonald's has in store!
St. Patrick's Day spirit in a milkshake
In addition to the Shamrock Shake, McDonald's also intends to bring back the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, introduced in 2020 and back by popular demand (via Delish)! The McFlurry features the same signature taste as the shake, but also comes with Oreo cookie pieces mixed into the dessert. If you love mint chocolate chip ice cream, this treat has your name all over it. Best of all, we don't have to wait long until we can indulge in these festive frozen desserts again. According to Delish, we can expect to see both the Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry on menus starting on February 15 for a limited time.
If you've held out for this shake until this year, it's time to gear up and get a move on. You don't want to miss this treat, especially if you have never tasted the shake before. It guarantees to not only get you in the holiday spirit, it reminds us spring is on the way and fun times are just around the corner. Plan your trip soon and help celebrate the St. Patrick's Day season in the tastiest way possible!
