What You Didn't Know About Carl Ruiz And Guy Fieri's Relationship
Carl Ruiz and Guy Fieri are two famous names in the culinary world. While the former was known for being impactful and the fact that he was immensely likable, Fieri has made a name for himself through his unique persona and unconventional outlook on food. Unfortunately, chef Ruiz passed away in 2019 from a heart attack (via Today).
Ruiz's sudden passing was devastating for many notable names in the industry, including Fieri, who was very close with the late chef. Back then, Fieri took to Twitter to write about his loss: "I'm heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone. I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef."
Let's take a look at the invaluable relationship that the two culinary stars shared.
They were close
Guy Fieri and Carl Ruiz got along like a house on fire. In fact, Ruiz even showed up on his friend's popular shows like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guy's Ranch Kitchen, and Guy's Grocery Games. Ruiz was also a part of Dinner: Impossible. Suffice to say, they had each other's backs and Fieri helped Ruiz discover Opie Radio, which helped him network with others in the industry who supported his podcast later.
A year after Ruiz passed on, Fieri was still mourning his friend. In September 2020, he remembered Ruiz on Instagram (via People). A devastated Fieri talked about losing "one of [his] favorite people in the world," calling Ruiz "one of the greatest chefs" and an incredibly funny guy. Fieri asked his followers to pay their respects to Ruiz and celebrate his spirit by going out to eat the way Ruiz always did, and tipping generously just like he would in a bid to help out others in the hospitality industry. "Miss him so much, but the way we can keep the memory alive is by celebrating him today and tomorrow," Fieri added, advising everyone to "keep 'Ruizing.'"
