Whatever Happened To McDonald's Chicken Selects?
McDonald's, it must be said, does rather well as a comfort food option. The fast-food giant has an incredible international presence, and as per Spoon University, the brand has no plans of slowing down. Believe it or not, a new McDonald's outlet opens every 14.5 hours. Gulp. Plus, the brand has such a vast presence in the U.S. that you're likely to always be no more than 115 miles away from a McDonald's outlet. Basically, those cravings never need to go unanswered!
Additionally, the brand has a plethora of offerings for every kind of customer. Whether you prefer to eat a delicious Big Mac or can't get enough of the french fries, you most probably have a favorite that you often turn to whenever you find yourself at a McDonald's outlet. Interestingly, one of the most enticing food options at the restaurant, the Chicken Selects is nowhere to be seen these days. Wondering what is the story there? Read on for the details.
Why must all good things come to an end?
According to a December 2020 report by Business Insider, Chicken Selects were a huge hit among McDonald's customers when they first showed up in 2004. In 2013, the fast-food giant made the decision to get rid of the food item before bringing back chicken tenders, rechristened as Buttermilk Crispy Tenders in 2017. Their comeback was so popular that they sold out super fast after their launch.
Well, fans were in for a rude shock when the tenders were temporarily eliminated from the menu after the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. And here's where things get murky: The tenders have yet to come back to McDonald's outlets. Fans are now afraid that it's possible that this move may be for good and the crispy tenders won't make a comeback again. It's hard to be sure, though. Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we?
