What Really Happened To Chick-Fil-A's Cold Brew Coffee
Chick-fil-A announced back in September of 2020 that they would be adding some exciting new selections to their menu for the fall. One of these new offerings was the brand new Mocha Cream Cold Brew, which the company described as "a delicious swirl of cold-brewed coffee, sweetened cream and chocolate-flavored syrup" served over ice. The company announced the drink had been "previously tested at select restaurants in Colorado and Wyoming" and "customers loved the Mocha Cream Cold Brew so much that we added it to our nationwide menu as a limited time offering. It's the perfect morning boost, mid-afternoon pick-me-up, or end-of-day treat."
The mocha cold brew joined their original and vanilla cold brew offerings on the menu, and it soon became a customer favorite. However, some customers may have noticed that the cold brew selection in the Chick-fil-A app seems to have disappeared (via Reddit). But cold brew fans need not worry. In the app, the cold drink is labeled as iced coffee, but customers can rest assured that the iced coffee drink is, in fact, Chick-fil-A's cold brew blend.
Chick-fil-A uses the terms iced coffee and cold brew interchangeably
Technically, iced coffee is simply regular coffee that has been left to cool and then served over ice. Cold brew, on the other hand, is a coffee concentrate that is made by steeping ground coffee in cold water for a minimum of 12 hours. Once the grounds are filtered out, the strong brew is usually mixed with water or milk before being served with ice, per Taste of Home.
However, many people use the two terms interchangeably, and since Chick-fil-A does not offer a regular iced coffee option, they simply list their cold brew as iced coffee on the menu. Their iced coffee is described as a handcrafted "custom blend of cold-brewed coffee and 2% milk, sweetened with pure cane sugar and served over ice," via Chick-fil-A's website.
Chick-fil-A fans can be sure that the iced coffee drink they see listed is the same cold brew drink they know and love. The original and vanilla cold brew is still available all day, and for a limited time, they can still order the specialty mocha cold brew at participating Chick-fil-A locations.
