Coca-Cola Has Good News For Fresca Fans
Fresca fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Your beloved zero-calorie sparkling flavored soda is back. It was a bit touch-and-go there for a while. A few months ago, there was talk of parent company Coca-Cola eliminating so-called zombie brands to focus on its biggest breadwinners (via MarketWatch). Then, Fresca was suddenly difficult — or nearly impossible — to find. The coronavirus pandemic made it hard to find a number of foods, including beverages, due to an unexpected aluminum can shortage, and a shortage of CO2.
Luckily, those shortages are over, and Fresca is back. The beverage survived being discontinued by Coca-Cola (TaB and Northern Neck Ginger Ale weren't so lucky), and Fresca made an entrance when it reemerged sporting a new size offering. The bubbly grapefruit soda water with no calories or sugar is now available in a six-pack of 16.9-ounce plastic bottles (via Eat This, Not That!).
Why Fresca changed its look and is now offering larger bottles
You may remember when Fresca cans debuted a new artisanal look back in 2018. Coca-Cola, at the time, had a goal of "reeling in a new generation of drinkers unfamiliar with the brand." The company said that the soda had built up a following since its launch in 1967, but remained fairly unknown to millennials. Ryan Hughes, associate brand manager for Sprite and Citrus Brands, said, "We realized we're sitting on a potential goldmine. [Fresca] hits the sweet spot somewhere between a soda and a flavored sparkling water." (via Coca-Cola).
Now that Fresca is gaining a larger following, and new flavors such as Blackberry Citrus and Strawberry Citrus were added to the existing lineup of classic Grapefruit, Black Cherry, and Peach Citrus, it was time to add another size option (via Fresca). Sometimes you want just a little Fresca for a cocktail, or a lot for making a punch. Other times, you want to sip on it all day, hence the screw-top plastic bottles. Whatever your plans, you can choose between a 12-ounce can, 16.9-ounce plastic bottle, 20-ounce bottle, or a 2-liter bottle.
