This $35,000 Scotch Has People Talking
Back in early October, The Glenrothes Distillery made an announcement that it would be selling its oldest ever single malt Scotch whisky. Though the distillery has remained something of a connoisseur's buy, this latest release has caught the attention of many. Now the oldest whisky the distillery has released, the coveted bottles were distilled back in November of 1968. Since then, the whisky has aged 50 years in sherry and bourbon oak casks, which has yielded an exceptional single malt Scotch whisky — but as you may know, the longer spirits age, the higher their price tag tends to go.
There are only 50 bottles of the special The Glenrothes Distillery single malt Scotch whisky that have been released for global sale, and each one of them is going for $35,000. For that price, the buyer will receive an individually numbered handmade faceted crystal decanter that the whisky has been decanted into. The bottle comes encased in a black lacquered presentation case, too, that's quite stunning. According to Duncan Fox of Bloomberg Intelligence, rarity and quality are incredibly important for investment whiskies.
This one is certainly that, and as e-commerce shopping soars for spirits, the Scotch is fortunately available through ReserveBar, which received 21 bottles to sell. Though some are already gone, there are some still available. For the $35k price tag, ReserveBar is also offering white glove concierge service to bring the bottle to your door.
This is what the pricey bottle comes with
If you're not familiar with The Glenrothes Distillery, it might be because of the fact that it has remained a quiet distillery, closed to the public and known primarily to whisky connoisseurs over the years. However, the distillery has been diligently making fine spirits for more than a century. The distillery likes to think of itself as "one of the best-kept secrets in Speyside," according to its website. That's why the final component of purchasing one of these bottles is so intriguing. With the purchase of the whisky itself, the buyer is also invited to an exclusive experience at The Glenrothes Highland Estate and Distillery in the Speyside town of Rothes.
So, if you have an extra $35,000 and are looking for a great bottle of Scotch whisky, this is your chance. Not to mention, we think it is likely to become a collector's item that could be a wonderful addition to any investment collection. Those who do collect and work to have one bottle from every distillery will undoubtedly not want to miss this rare opportunity to snag a vintage like this.
