Popeyes Fans Won't Want To Miss This Chicken Sandwich Deal
Did you know Monday, November 9 was National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day? Honestly, neither did we. And if Popeyes wasn't shouting about it from the rooftops, how could it be a thing? But we did hear that Popeyes is honoring this, um, major holiday with a free fried chicken sandwich, appropriately enough. The deal is available online or through the Popeyes app and comes with any purchase of $10 or more (via Thrillist). Customers putting in that $10 investment will receive their choice of classic or spicy chicken sandwich. The offer can be redeemed once per day through this Sunday, November 15.
In case you're just now tuning in to the chicken sandwich wars, the Popeyes chicken sandwich comes on a toasted and buttered brioche bun with mayonnaise and pickle slices. And yes, that pretty much describes Chick-fil-A's fried chicken sandwich, too. Popeyes introduced its version in August 2019. Food reviewers at outlets such as The Takeout and Business Insider quickly declared Popeyes' version to be better than Chick-fil-A's.
Popeyes went to war with Chick-fil-A when it introduced its sandwich in 2019
Within days of the release of Popeyes' chicken sandwich, the chicken chain got into a Twitter war with its rival, prompting fans of Chick-fil-A and Popeyes to show their support at the drive-thrus. Popeyes wasn't ready for the mad rush and sold out of chicken sandwiches just two weeks after introducing them (via Vox). It took more than two months for Popeyes to sort out its supply chain, but its chicken sandwich did finally return on November 3, 2019, aka National Sandwich Day – which is not to be confused with National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day, which all cultures celebrate just six days later.
We're not sure where Chick-fil-A stands on National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day. But Chick-fil-A was so excited about National Sandwich Day a year ago that it sent a message to its fans, asking them to be sure to come in that day and enjoy their chicken sandwich (via USA Today). It was an obvious attempt to blunt the hype around Popeyes' relaunch. Nobody told Chick-fil-A National Sandwich Day fell on a Sunday last year, so all of its restaurants would be closed. Here's hoping they made up for it on National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day.
