Why This Bakery Claims It Knows Who Will Win The Presidential Election

It's election season, a time that for many people is filled with anticipation and uncertainty over the direction our country will take in the next four years. And between the pandemic and the contentious presidential battle, there seems to be more doubt and apprehension raised over this election than ever before.

However, there is one place that feels certain they already know the outcome of the election. According to Kathleen Lochel, owner of the family-run Lochel's Bakery in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, her cookie sales have accurately predicted the outcome of every presidential race for the last three election cycles, per ABC 6.

Lochel bakes two sets of cookies, bearing the name and party colors of each presidential candidate, and sells them in an informal "cookie poll." Customers can come in and purchase the cookie that aligns with the candidate they plan on voting for in the upcoming election. This year, she says people have been traveling from as far as Staten Island to make their voices heard in the cookie poll.

Lochel's cookie poll predicts a Trump victory

The cookies have predicted a clear winner for the 2020 election. On Monday, November 2nd, Lochel told Fox News "right now, Donald Trump is still in the lead...we've sold about 28,000 [Trump] cookies to 5,000 [of Biden's]...By the end of today's sales, knowing the orders we have, [Trump cookie sales] should probably approach 29,000."

The most recent tally released by the bakery showed they had sold 27,903 Trump cookies, and 5,114 Biden-themed cookies. So if the Lochel's Bakery cookie poll is to be believed, then we might already know the next president before the final votes have even been cast today.

Lochel says the goal of the cookie poll is simply to bring both Democrats and Republicans together for some election-themed fun and sweet-tasting treats (via Patch). Regardless of the outcome, Lochel's Bakery plans to bake a celebratory cookie and other delicious baked goods in honor of the winning candidate.
