Why You Should Make An In-Costume Stop At Tim Hortons On Halloween
As lovely as the cooler weather, turning leaves, and pumpkin spice everything has been this year, many of the events we love most about the spooky season (costume parties, trick-or-treating, haunted houses, etc.) have had to be changed or canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Don't forget as you're making Halloween plans that, according to the CDC, social distancing, hand washing, and masks are still necessary (well, at least the last one should be pretty easy to comply with). Of course, that still leaves one question: where are we supposed to go to show off our kooky costumes this year? Tim Hortons, of course!
According to M Live, the doughnut and coffee chain is offering one free Halloween doughnut to anyone who shows up wearing a costume on October 31st. There are a few stipulations to this sweet deal, however. First, the offer only applies to US Tim Hortons locations (sorry, Canada). Second, you must go through the drive-thru, in costume, to claim your spooky doughnut. All the better for social distancing, right?
Why Tim Hortons is offering free doughnuts on Halloween
If you're wondering why the doughnut chain is opening their drive-through to trick-or-treaters this year, Regional President of Tim Hortons US Ricardo Azevedo said the following: "We know that Halloween will look different for so many families this year, and we want to be a place where guests can celebrate their favorite traditions safely" (via Business Wire).
If you're hoping to be able to pick your favorite doughnut from their offerings (like we all seem to pick the Reese's Cups out of the communal bowl of candy), you're sadly out of luck. The only doughnut being offered for free on Halloween is a classic yeast ring donut covered with chocolate fondant icing and topped with orange sprinkles. If you want a maple dip, apple fritter, or a sour cream plain (or any other flavor of doughnut for that matter), you're going to have to pay (via Tim Hortons). However, if you bring a few of your friends — or your kids — and they're also in costume, you can each snag a Halloween doughnut for free. The deal is one doughnut per costume, but if you're not the costume type (or if you want more than one of these holiday-themed doughnuts), you can always just purchase the Halloween doughnuts for $0.99 each.
