Popular Pizza Hut Menu Items Ranked Worst To Best
To say Americans are enthralled with pizza would be a monumental understatement. Every second, it's estimated that Americans eat 350 pizza slices. Considering that Pizza Hut is one of the most popular pizza chains in the United States, it's safe to assume that their kitchens are responsible for many of those 350 slices of pizza.
Typically, you're going to be very happy with what you get from Pizza Hut. Not only do they have many high-quality pizza options, they have a menu with a surprisingly large array of choices — from spicy chicken wings to sweet desserts.
But don't get too confident when constructing your Pizza Hut order because there are a handful of items on their menu that you should avoid. On the other hand, there are also multiple items that you should consider ordering every time. Read this ranking to see what is recommended and what you should stay away from.
16. Pizza Hut Breaded Boneless Wings
Even before you place your order, the rational part of your brain knows that getting wings from a pizza place is a bad idea. If you decide to ignore it and listen to the irrational, hungry, wing-craving part of your brain instead, you will live to regret it. The Breaded Boneless Wings from Pizza Hut are bad. In fact, they are even worse than you could have imagined.
It's the "breaded" aspect of these wings that is truly terrible. On the same wing, you'll find parts that are disgustingly soggy along with other sections that are overly crunchy. While it may have been possible to deal with wings that are either too soggy or too crunchy, dealing with both issues at the same time is too much. After you bite into the wings, you'll either encounter chicken meat that you're convinced is raw or leathery, fibrous meat. Either way, you'll be ready to throw these foul pieces of boneless fowl in the trash.
If you know you will eventually order these Breaded Boneless Wings despite this warning, at least do yourself a favor and go with the Buffalo Burnin' Hot flavor. That flavor is so unsatisfyingly spicy that your taste buds will revolt if you ever try to make the same mistake again.
15. Pizza Hut Hawaiian Chicken Pizza
Even if you think putting pineapple on pizza is one of the worst ideas ever, you still won't be ready for how horrendous Pizza Hut's Hawaiian Chicken Pizza tastes. While the chunks are pineapple are what you would expect, everything goes downhill from there.
First of all, the chicken isn't good. Instead of being a burst of flavor, the pieces of chicken act as inconvenient stringy fragments of flesh that only get in the way. The flavor is extremely limited — and you won't care about the taste when you're constantly picking the chicken shards out of your teeth. Pizza Hut also puts too many slices of green peppers on this pizza and not nearly enough ham.
If you really, really want a chicken pizza from Pizza Hut, go with the Chicken-Bacon Parmesan Pizza instead. You can live with the underwhelming chicken on this pizza because the pineapple has been replaced with big, juicy hunks of Roma tomatoes, the skimpy amount of ham has been replaced by a robust amount of bacon, and the crust has been upgraded to a yummy parmesan-flavored crust.
14. Pizza Hut Breadsticks
There are multiple reasons why you shouldn't order the breadsticks from Pizza Hut. Firstly, they're astonishingly overpriced. Secondly, this is the worst of all of Pizza Hut's sides. You can do so much better with just a little bit of research. Finally, you never know what to expect from one batch to the next. Sometimes, the breadsticks have the perfect crispy texture on the outside and the optimally soft, melt in your mouth texture on the inside. Other times, they are crunchy all the way through or disappointingly limp. But even if you get Pizza Hut's breadsticks at their best, it's difficult to enjoy them when you know you're being ripped off.
If you do get these breadsticks, double-check and then triple-check to make sure that you got marinara sauce with your order. Pizza Hut's marinara sauce is so good that you can salvage a bad batch of breadsticks as long as you're as you have some of this sauce at your disposal. Dip it in before each bite and suddenly you won't care as much about getting suckered into buying overpriced pieces of rejected crust.
13. Pizza Hut Hershey's Triple Chocolate Brownie
Did you know that it's possible for a dessert to have too much chocolate in it? If you don't think that is actually possible, order the Hershey's Triple Chocolate Brownie from Pizza Hut and you will see for yourself. After your first bite, you will be happy. After your second bite, you will still be okay with it. But from the third bite and all bites after that, you will understand that there is a limit to how much chocolatey goodness should exist within a single dessert.
The word "triple" in Hershey's Triple Chocolate Brownie refers to the fact that Pizza Hut uses semi-sweet chocolate chips in addition to Heshey's Special Dark Chocolate Chips and Hershey's Cocoa. Pizza Hut combines it all together to form what is basically dark chocolate brownies with a ton of chocolate chips in it. The result is a dessert so rich and so powerful you'll soon be begging for mercy. If you order these brownies, be equipped with a tub or two of vanilla ice cream to give yourself a fighting chance at enjoying it.
12. Pizza Hut Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta
Of the two types of pastas Pizza Hut currently offers, the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta is the wrong one to select. It's not terrible but it's certainly not a pasta dish that you will look forward to eating again.
The red marinara sauce in the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta is the issue. When you first take a look at the pasta dish, you'll be displeased by how watery it looks. The liquidy red sauce sloshes everywhere and looks unappetizing. And while the marinara is supposed to be "meaty," there's just not a whole lot of meat involved. If you bought this for the supposed meat, you'll be thoroughly disappointed. It's also claimed that they put cheese in this dish but the evidence is minimal.
Tuscani Premium Bacon Mac n' Cheese used to be on Pizza Hut's menu but it was discontinued. While it wasn't great, it was certainly better than the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta.
11. Pizza Hut Cheese Pizza
Although there's nothing particularly wrong with the cheese pizza from Pizza Hut, it's an unabashedly boring pick. Unless you're a square whose idea of painting the town red involves a white canvas and some erasable markers, you will be totally nonplussed by this pizza.
The good news is that Pizza Hut won't shortchange you on the amount of mozzarella cheese they put on your cheese pizza. This pizza chain packs on the cheese (approximately 300 million pounds per year, to be exact) so you can be confident that each bite will have an ample amount. There will also be plenty of their marinara sauce.
While you will get to pick your crust for your cheese pizza, don't choose the Thin 'N Crispy crust. Without any toppings, your pizza will disappear before you know it. Instead, going with the hand-tossed Pizza crust will at least fill you up — even if it's with a relatively boring pizza.
10. Pizza Hut Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie
While there's nothing necessarily wrong with Pizza Hut's Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie, there's also nothing too exciting or novel about it, either. Yes, it's size is impressive (it has a diameter of eight inches and it's thick) but even though it's baked in the restaurant, it tastes like a common, everyday chocolate chip cookie.
Instead of ordering the Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie from Pizza Hut, you might as well look for one of the better brands of chocolate chip cookies at your local grocery store. If you want your cookie to be warm like Pizza Hut's gigantic cookie, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. Take it out of the microwave and, voila, you have recreated this dessert — and it will probably taste even better.
That said, if Pizza Hut ever brings back the Hershey's Toasted S'mores Cookie, that's a dessert worth ordering. It uses the big chocolate chip cookie as a base and then stacks gooey marshmallows, melty chocolate, and graham cracker crumbles on top. That bad boy is as scrumptious as it sounds.
9. Pizza Hut Cheese Sticks
You might be tempted to label the cheese sticks from Pizza Hut as another boring selection on their menu — but these sticks are yummy enough that you can justify ordering a bundle. While the breadsticks are yawn-inducing, the cheese sticks have enough cheesy goodness and enough Italian seasoning that your taste buds will stand up and salute your choice. It's actually perfectly justifiable to order cheese sticks as a standalone meal, particularly if you're on the run and only have one hand available to eat with.
While the cheese sticks go perfectly with Pizza Hut's marinara sauce, you should also try them with their garlic sauce. The garlic sauce tastes like melted butter with parmesan cheese and garlic added to it. Dip your cheese sticks in it once and you may say goodbye to the marinara sauce for good.
If your sweet tooth is hooting and hollering, appease it with the icing dip. Though it may sound iffy, cheese sticks in icing dip is actually amazing.
8. Pizza Hut Supreme Pizza
If you can't quite put your finger on exactly what it is you want on your pizza, going with the Supreme Pizza from Pizza Hut isn't a horrible idea. It's not a great idea, either. You'll eat every slice put in front of you but, while doing so, you'll see the error of ways.
Most aspects of the Supreme Pizza are actually really good. The crust, marinara sauce, and the cheese are what you would expect. The slices of pepperoni and the chunks of ground beef and seasoned pork are all delicious. However, things take a turn for the worse when the red onions and the green peppers get involved. There are so many pieces of pepper and onion that you will begin to think that Pizza Hut is trying to save money by taking up space on this pizza by including a deluge of veggies. Even if you love green peppers and adore red onions, you'll be dismayed by their overwhelming population on the Supreme Pizza.
7. Pizza Hut Large Traditional Wings
Although the Large Traditional Wings from Pizza Hut are a lot better than the disastrous Breaded Boneless Wings, you need to temper your expectations. These wings won't be as great as what you can find at other chain restaurants that specialize in wings like Wingstop or Buffalo Wild Wings. That said, if you're careful and take a measured approach, the Pizza Hut's bone-in version will scratch your itch for wings.
First, you have to pick the right flavor. Both the Cajun Style Dry Rub and the Lemon Pepper Dry Rub are really good. If you don't want a dry rub, go for the Honey BBQ or the Garlic Parmesan. After your flavor is selected, the next step is to pick the right dip. While Pizza Hut's blue cheese tastes too processed and is gross after a few bites, their ranch is really good. The ranch is actually good enough for you to justify ordering some of Pizza Hut's fries to make sure you have something that's dippable so that you can enjoy the ranch to the very last drop.
6. Pizza Hut Cinnamon Sticks
While the Hershey's Triple Chocolate Brownie and the Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie have more enticing names, the best dessert at Pizza Hut is actually an order of the humble cinnamon sticks. All the gimmicks are thrown out of the window. Instead, Pizza Hut simply coats sticks of bread with a healthy amount of cinnamon and sugar. When you order the cinnamon sticks, they are then baked fresh in the restaurant.
You can always rest assured that this dessert will come with a satisfactory amount of cinnamon and sugar goodness. However, the cinnamon sticks being this high in the ranking comes with one caveat: You need to eat these sticks while they are still warm. If you wait too long and they have cooled all the way off, it will be difficult to dip them in the icing dip. Beyond that, the texture of the Cinnamon Sticks will be far less pleasurable. They'll go from supple and inviting to stiff and stale.
5. Pizza Hut Stuffed Garlic Knots
While the cheese sticks are a notable step above from the disappointing breadsticks, they can't compare to Pizza Hut's Stuffed Garlic Knots. These things are legendary. Whenever you order a pizza (or anything else, really) it's always a wise decision to add an order of Stuffed Garlic Knots before you finish checking out.
Pizza Hut basically gets pizza dough, ties it in a knot, and then stuffs it with an overflowing amount of cheese. From there, the knots are blessed with grated parmesan cheese, brushed with garlic butter, and then put in the oven until they're golden brown. As good as these things sound in theory, in actuality they taste even better.
While you don't need marinara sauce to really enjoy the Stuffed Garlic Knots, they do enhance the experience. With the garlic butter already incorporated into each knot, you don't need to order any of the aforementioned garlic sauce. Go with marinara sauce — or just eat them plain.
4. Pizza Hut Meaty P'Zone
What the rest of the culinary world would probably call a calzone, Pizza Hut calls a P'Zone. Even if you think that's a lame name (and, honestly, it is), you can't deny how good their Meaty P'Zone tastes.
Inside of a pizza crust that is folded all the way over, the Meaty P'Zone contains seasoned pork, Italian sausage, ground beef, pepperoni, ham, and a generous amount of melted cheese. Before it's baked, it's first coated with parmesan. The result is a Pizza Hut menu item that deserves its lofty placement on this list. Dip it in marinara sauce before each bite and you'll be in calzone heaven.
Pizza Hut also sells a Pepperoni P'Zone and a Supremo P'Zone. Neither one can hold a candle to the Meaty P'Zone. The pepperoni version is thinner, less hearty, and less diverse, while the Supremo P'Zone is too overloaded with green peppers and red onions (much like the Supreme Pizza).
3. Pizza Hut Pepperoni Pizza
Pizza Hut took an American invention and they've nearly mastered it. Their pepperoni pizza is so good that it's difficult to find anything wrong with it. It's surface is completely blanketed with slices of pepperoni and hills of mozzarella cheese. Beneath all that, you will find a lot of their tasty marinara sauce. Once in a blue moon, you may be disappointed with the number of pepperoni slices that Pizza Hut puts on this pizza — but you can chalk that up to bad luck because it happens so infrequently.
If you want the pepperoni pizza at its best, opt for the Original Stuffed Crust. Pizza Hut has been offering crusts stuffed with cheese since 1995 so it's no surprise that they've mastered the art of it by now. Sure, it might cost a little bit extra, but the extra pizzazz it adds to your pepperoni pizza is definitely worth the relatively small increase in price.
2. Pizza Hut Tuscani Chicken Alfredo Pasta
As mentioned previously, the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta is something you can do without. However, the Tuscani Chicken Alfredo Pasta is a masterpiece. This pasta is so good that it's actually believable that 50 New Yorkers were fooled into thinking it was pasta from an expensive Italian restaurant, as we saw in that Pizza Hut commercial from over a decade ago.
While the red sauce in the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta was runny, the alfredo sauce in this dish is ultimately creamy. It also has an entire layer of cheese in it. And though most of the chicken at Pizza Hut is underwhelming, this has pieces of grilled chicken breast in it — and the chicken is actually really tasty.
This is marketed as big enough to serve two people. In reality, if you're ordering for a hungry group of people, your best bet is to just order one for every person who expresses a desire for this pasta. When it comes down to it, the Tuscani Chicken Alfredo Pasta is too delicious to share.
1. Pizza Hut Meat Lover's Pizza
The Meat Lover's Pizza is the best item you can find on Pizza Hut's menu. When in doubt, order this pizza and everyone will be overjoyed. There is so much yumminess involved that it's impossible to be anything less than euphoric.
As you'd assume, the Meat Lover's Pizza has a lot of meat on it. The first meat that will catch your eye is the pepperoni. From there, you can't help but be enthralled by the seasoned pork, Italian sausage, ground beef, and ham. At this point, you're already extremely happy. But once you notice that this pizza also has bacon on it, you'll be literally pumping your fist.
While the meat gets the top billing, there is also a lot of cheese and marinara sauce on the Meat Lover's Pizza. Crust-wise, let your heart be your guide. Any type of crust — from Thin 'N Crispy to Original Stuffed Crust — will work splendidly. Whichever crust you go with, this pizza is destined to be devoured in no time. Even vegetarians will be reaching for a slice — and who can blame them?
